This is a must-visit place in Jakarta
Even if you visit nothing else in Jakarta, you have to visit this one. It is well worth it. From the small shuttle train that take you to the monument to the brief diorama-led exhibits on Indonesia's history and the prime exhibits on its constitution and slogan and emblems. It is so worth a visit. Dont forget the vendor stalls outside where you can get many things for a steal!

    Nice but a busy spot!
A lovely public space but I’ve never seen so many buses at a single attraction in my life (someone told us there was some commemoration happening this weekend). We didn’t go inside, lines were long and it was extremely hot outside. Just took some fun photos and moved on.

It was convenient to my hotel so I went
I walked from my hotel to this monument. It is kind of a strange place, most gates are closed so you have to go all around. The grounds are mostly brick. You can choose to go up in the tower, I didn’t. You can go inside and look at the displays. I felt like I was missing something while there.

    National Monument visit
Nice place to spend few hours and learn about the history of Indonesia. In the museum they have 20+ nativity scenes going from the beginning to present day. Very well done and entire family enjoyed. We also go tickets to visit the tower (was a 3 hour wait but luckily you don’t have to stay in line only show up at scheduled time slot). It was a nice overall view of the city from 130 floor structure but it is not really worth the wait. Walking through park was nice as well. We stayed at Millennium Hotel which is 20 mins walking distance although crossing the streets is an adventure in Indonesia.

    Majestic national monument.
Even if you stay in Jakarta for a short period of time, you should make time to visit the national monument at Merdeka Square. It was quite a sight to visit up close. They have an observation deck up top where you can get reasonably good views of the city. The grounds surrounding the monument are beautifully maintained.

    Jakarta National Monument Monasa
Jakarta National Monument There’s not much to visit in Jakarta but for sure, the Monasa - National Monument is worth to do it, being an important tourist attraction. But arm yourself with lot of patience and PAY ATTENTION to the entrance tickets. When you buy the ticket to go to the top of the monument, along with it, they give you a card. On the ticket, there is a waiting list number, that means that it does’t matter your position in the line, you go by numbers. So don’t lose the ticket !!! There is an interesting underground museum with a beautiful diorama picturing Indonesia’s history. Then, there is an open platform at the first floor with a nice view. From there you take the only one elevator to the top, but be prepared to wait for at least 60 min because the lift capacity is about 10 persons at a time, totally insufficient for the hundreds of persons waiting outside. The same when you get down. There is also an emergency stair but it’s not opened to the public. Considering it’s section at the top, I guess there would be a lot of problems in case of emergency evacuation …

    Jskarta's Historical National Monument
Centrally located in Jakarta is a large park, Merdeka Square, and is also the location for Indonesia's National Monument. The National Monument symbolizes Indonesia's struggles for independance and national unity. Standing at 433 ft. (132 m) tall, the Monument is one of the tallest structures in Indonesia. There is no entry fee to enter the park area to visit the Monument, but there is a long walk from the entrance to the base of the monument. There are trams available from the park entrance to the base for a fee. At times it can be quite busy at the Monument because most tours to Jakarta generally makes a stop here because it is a historically important structure.

Really nothing much to see, perhaps just to take a photo and it's not even safe to do so - my phone was snatched, the police spoke no English and we're flippant about it and I was harassed by a local claiming to help me but went into taking selfie photos right after I was robbed, with his hands on my shoulder and trying to pull me close to him. He also harassed me with more than 20 calls afterwards.

No photos as it was on the phone that I was robbed of!

The area surrounding the National Monument was under heavy guard and restriction when we visited with all traffic banned at the entry gates. We had to wait until the dignitaries with police escort passed through before we were allowed to approach the gates. Impressive monument from a distance, 137m high obelisk topped with a 14.5m bronze flame coated with 32kg of gold leaf.

Kinda not impressive. There’s not much information about attraction in Jakarta so I randomly went there after seeing it on google map and it is written that it is closed at 10 pm but in reality it’s closed since 4 pm. Unfortunately, I arrived at 4.15. I got lost in the park and in the metro around. It is so confusing.

We actually didn't go up to the monument, which was constructed to commemorate Indonesia's independence, and its top is covered with real gold.
Monace is close to istqlal mosque and the cathedral. You can plan it as a stop if you are visiting one of these attractions.

I recommend the Museum Sejarah Nasional (National History Museum) located inside the Jakarta National Monument (Monas) to be visited by the children.

Elderly visitors should be accompanied by their younger family because hundreds of staircases should be climbed to reach the cup of the monument (17 m from the ground).
