Stephen arranged two days of wonderful tours for me in Hong Kong and Lantau, based on my interests (religion, culture, history). He is very knowledgeable and good company. I greatly enjoyed my time with him and would definitely hire him again.

Stephen is the ultimate tour guide if you want to see Hong Kong in a local and authentic way. Our family of 3 (dad and 2 adult daughters) booked 2 tours with Stephen during our trip: 6 hour city tour to explore Hong Kong and Kowloon Island, and 6 hour tour to explore Lantau Island. We did the city tour on our first day in Hong Kong, and I'd highly recommend this. Stephen helped orient us to the city, how to get around, and key places we should visit based on our interests. He provided so much history and cultural insights, and showed us less-touristy places like the local bustling markets. Stephen even went above and beyond and added a stop that's not normally on the tour that was very significant for our family to visit; he did lots of research beforehand, even showing us old maps of this location during our visit. This was so meaningful for our family and we can't thank Stephen enough for incorporating this into our day. We also loved visiting Lantau Island with its beautiful coastal views, and seeing the contrast from the city. Visiting the fishing village, lunch at a local spot, and the short hike to panoramic coastal views were the highlights!
Stephen is so genuine, kind, knowledgeable and passionate about showing folks Hong Kong. Even after our tours, he continued to send insights, tips, and made himself available for any questions or guidance. He puts so much thought and effort into each tour; you truly feel like it's customized for you. Don't hesitate to book with Stephen!

Stephen is a thoroughly genuine person, passionate about his country, culture and history and keen to share. I booked a 6 hour city tour at the start of my week in Hong Kong. Highly recommend doing this as it allows you a first overview of the busy city. From that tour you can then note what to explore in more detail during your nex few days. I also booked another shorter tour to Ngong Ping (cable car) and the old styleTai O fishing village and countryside. Stephen also helps plan your next few days, what trains/bus to take etc He also emails a summary of your days visit, how helpful is that!
Highly recommend! Many thanks Stephen

My wife & I were on a cruise that ended in Hong Kong. We arrived on a Saturday and originally had planned on staying there for 3 nights before flying home. Unfortunately, due to the Corona Virus scare, we changed our flight plans and only had one day to spend in Hong Kong.
Luckily, that one day was the day that I had booked a private tour with Stephen and it was a day very well spent. We met Stephen in our hotel lobby mid-morning and immediately took to the streets.
Our very first subway ride took us the the Chinatown section of HK where we walked around, visited 2 Daoist temples and got a good glimpse of everyday living. Stephen spent lots of time talking about the history of the city, its people, food, customs, religions, costs and politics. We traversed streets, parks, alleyways, stairways and other places tourists would never see and we felt like locals! This was exactly why we booked our tour with Stephen.
We next got on to a trolley and headed over to the waterfront where we would soon board the Star Ferry for a ride across the harbor. Before doing that, we stopped into the lobby of the HSBC Bank building to look at some great photos depicting the early days of Hong Kong as well as what occurred there during WWII. This was a great stop and certainly not one an unaccompanied tourist or someone that was part of a large commercial tour group would see or even know about.
Once we crossed the harbor on one of the historic Star ferries, we walked through the area a bit before entering a mall located in a public housing complex to have lunch at a local establishment. Because of where it was, we may have been the only tourists in the restaurant, but Stephen guided us through the menu and we had a great lunch.
After lunch, we boarded a mini bus used by the locals and took it a few stops before getting off and walking into a beautiful park that was once the site of the Kowloon Walled City, a huge, very compact ghetto that once housed over 30,000 people. The Walled City was, for the most part, independent from the rest of Hong Kong, its laws and lifestyle. Stephen gave us a lot of insight into the now-gone but intriguing Walled City and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of life there. There were many photos of the Walled City that Stephen spent time discussing, and we found it to be a fascinating part of Hong Kong's history.
After leaving the park, we walked though an area that had many local markets and we walked though much of it. It was a photographer's dream with all the fruits, vegetables, spices, meats & fishes on display. After this tour, we again boarded the subway where Stephen delivered us back to the front entrance to our hotel.
All in all, the day we spent with Stephen was one of the BEST tours we have been on, and we travel and hire private tour guides on almost all trips. His approach of taking you on a "non-touristy" tour is innovative and a welcomed change of pace. His knowledge and passion for the city is unmatched and admirable. Plus, he is a very nice guy who we wish we could have spent more time with. If we had not chosen to leave HK early because of the Corona virus, we would have asked if he was available for another day during our stay. Who knows where he would have taken us? I have, though, no doubt that it would have been interesting, informative and enjoyable. Well done Stephen!

My husband and I throughly enjoyed our 6 hr City tour with Stephen. Stephen goes out of his way to tailor each tour to meet the needs of the group. As this was our first trip to Hong Kong, we wanted a good overview of the city, and this tour exceeded our expectations. It was very interesting to wander through the local neighborhoods and to learn about the area through the perspective and knowledge of a local. We visited many places that we never would have found on our own or on a traditional group tour, and particularly enjoyed our lunch at an authentic local restaurant in Kowloon. Stephen is a very personable and professional guide. All Pre-trip correspondence (general information, reservations, payment) was handled quickly and efficiently. Although this was primarily a walking tour, we also used many forms of public transportation (subway, tram, ferry) which made it much easier for us to navigate on our own during our additional days in Hong Kong. I highly recommend Stephen to introduce you to Hong Kong!

Without doubt, the best way to get to know the culture in Hong Kong. Stephen is a great guide , very, that shows you not only the history but the way they live, their customs, religion, etc. He showed us how to move around HongKong and visited places Hong Koneans go, that we wouldn’t have visited otherwise. He made us a memorable visit that we will always remember.

Whenever my wife and I travel to a city for the first time, we take a walking tour to get our bearings and an overview to see what we want to explore further. We look for someone local but often find that hard to find. When we do, there can occasionally be difficulty in gaining an accurate perspective leading to what feels like a "whitewashed" tour of the main tourist spots. With Stephen, nothing could be further from the truth. His ability to communicate regarding the history, the culture, the political climate and finding the "off the beaten path" highlights were spot on with what we consider the essentials of a perfect event. We gained great perspective in how Hong Kong evolved as well as the ongoing development and changes taking place in the current climate. We experienced the cuisine as well as the locals in getting the true flavor of the city. If you are looking for a unique tour experience in this fascinating city, look no further. When you book with Stephen's tour company, you get only Stephen. Best to book well in advance if you want the best.

My son and I had a great walking tour day with Stephen. We covered a lot of ground in 6 hours, and learned much more about Hong Kong’s history and current environment than we could have learned on our own in several days. It was an added bonus that Stephen and my son were able to talk about a lot of current topics as my son just finished a study abroad semester in Shanghai. Great opportunity to learn and share information for American travelers.

Even though my wife and I unfortunately needed to cancel with Stephen since our tour changed plans I still want to write a review.
Stephen is a joy to work with. His communication is top-notch, from the planning we began ten months ago to the latest when he quickly refunded our payment.
I hope our travel plans will bring us to Hong Kong in the future and we can have Stephen show us Hong Kong.
