The area
Neighbourhood: Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.

The Ferris wheel is worth a short detour for the beautiful view. Good location between the MTR Station Central and the stop of the Hop on hop off buses (big bus tour).
We were practically the only guests, so no waiting time.

Lovely views as you go round. Had our own private gondola. Views were stunning and you went round around 4 times.

Highly recommend to visit during the day. You could get a private cabin if you travel with 4+ during off peak hours. Although the wheel may look small from the ground, the view from top are brilliant. A ticket gets you about 3-4 rounds.

We chose to go at night to take in the Hong Kong night view. It was a short wait and we chose to have the whole car to ourselves. It was comfortable, air-conditioned, and gave good views of both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The whole ride took about 15 mins (3 rounds). This is way cheaper than other ferris wheels around the world.

We went on the wheel on a Sunday and were expecting long queues however there was no queue at all. We booked a private cab which cost us 160 Hong Kong dollars, there are 8 seats in each cab so you are effectively paying for all the seats. The views were brilliant, the wheel goes round very slowly and you go round 3 times. Great fun and well worth a visit.

One of the cheapest attraction in hong kong, near the mtr station and bus station or even the pier. Easy to access and not a very long queue

It seems like every city we visit now has a gigantic ferris wheel. Unfortunately this one fails to live up to the reputation of the London Eye or Singapore Flyer. Not only are the cabs not air conditioned they also do not have a narrative about the City or the sights you will be seeing. It also rotates very slowly with many stops to let passengers on an off which is very annoying in the heat of the cab. On a positive note, it is very inexpensive and a good thing to do in conjunction with the Star Ferry which is located very close to the dock on the Hong Kong island side.

Will it go high speed or normal speed
Hi MiniMunu, the wheel goes at normal speed. It usually takes 15 minutes to make 3 spins. If you do visit us, I'd recommend booking online to save time. Thanks

Are there any restaurants nearby? Any recommendations?
There are several food kiosks at the park serving local & cafe style food. The closest restaurant is Cafe 8 ( Rooftop Hong Kong Maritime Museum Pier 8, Central) and many more in the IFC (closest shopping centre)

When is the best time to go? Will be crowded in the evenings? Thanks
Hi Sacred21, popular times for the Wheel are usually 4pm till 11pm. The is usually less of a crowd at 11am when the Wheel opens. I'd recommend booking tickets online to reduce waiting time.
