The Noonday Gun is located along the promenade at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter and is managed by the Jardine Company in a tradition that dates back to the 1860's with a 6 year pause during WWII and the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong.

At 12pm sharp, a company employee fires a mounted naval gun. The grounds immediately around the Noonday Gun remain open for visitation for 30 minutes afterwards each day. If you miss this 30 minute window, you can still view this historic site fairly well from just a few metres away on both sides before or after enjoying the recently revitalised promenade area that lines the Typhoon Shelter.

To visit the Noonday Gun, there are presently two routes you can take. The simplest is take the overpass footbridge from Victoria Park over to the promenade and to walk a couple hundred metres west. Alternatively, there is a more difficult to find but shorter route by way of an tunnel passage next to the WTC Centre building. Just look for the Noonday Gun and Hong Kong Yacht Club signs and follow that path under Gloucester Road until you exit at the promenade. From here you will find yourself just outside the Noonday Gun location.

Really great to visit providing you are there just before midday, ready for the loading of the canon and then its firing at midday. The blast was a lot more spectacular and louder than i had expected. You can then visit the small courtyard for half an hour after the firing until the gates are locked.

A fun attraction for everyone. A video does not give this gun any justice, it have to be heard by yourself.

If you are in Hong Kong for more than 3-4 days then this is a fun little spot to add to your itinerary to see on Hong Kong Island. Make sure to leave enough time to get there because, as other reviewers have mentioned, it's only open for 30 minutes a day and the actual gun is shot only once exactly at noon. The officer stands and looks at his watch until it is precisely noon! A lovely little bit of history.

This activity is really interesting and a fresh take amidst all the shopping areas. The entrance is accessible from both sides of the outer building of the world trade centre. The photos I have taken is just showing one side of it. It has clear signage throughout to point you to the noonday gun location. At the other side. It is just a plain metal door. I arrived 30min to find it and I had a lot of time before noon. Well good to secure a position for photo taking. The staff arrived about 10 minutes before noon to load the gun and fired a single shot exactly at noon. It was impressive with the audience's oohs and aahs.

Location wise is abit hard to find so you might wanna research on the path. There's currently constructions around the area making it harder to see. It only opens to the public for 30mins after the firing so be sure to be there earlier.

...you can be treated to a booming tradition that will make you jump. It’s not the easiest to find the way over the road (the underground walkway is down an alley by the shopping centre) but there’s a nice walk over to Victoria Park too.

It only takes 5 minutes for it all to be over, but if you like a bit of tradition, pomp and ceremony, the Noonday Gun salute is for you. It doesn't make a massive noise but enough to entertain the kids and make the adults smile. Located near the water, it provides excellent photo opportunities. It was nice to see some real grass as well!

The gun is located in Causeway Bay and was moved by Jardines from Macau to this location in 1844 and was used to give a salute to the head of Jardines whenever he arrived. It is not clear how and why this gun was fired at noon but it continued until the Japanese occupation in December 1941 and commenced again in August 1947. Because of complaints about the noise the six pound gun by a more modern Hotchkiss three pound gun. To get to the gun is interesting. Alongside the World Trade Centre entrance is a small side door down an alleyway, go in and follow the signs under the road.

This is a pretty cool little side show to see if you are in the area around noon. The gun it shot at 12pm sharp and the gates are opened afterwards so you can take pictures with the gun. We went with guests who had a special interest in canons so they loved it. It is quite a loud bang. Just show up 5 Min before.
