The cable car ride tkes about 30 minutes. The cars hold up to eight passengers. At the end of the ride is a large budda on the top of a hill. Well worth the price

If visiting Lantau Island and going on the gondola make sure that there is no low cloud about as it will spoil the views.

Hike to Tai O, DB, or Mui Wo, enjoy the beach at Cheung Sha. Watch out for the overcrowded Buses on the weekend. Disney area is relaxing as well. Many things to see, many hiking trails, cyclists on the weekend between TC and Disney.

You can go by Ferry very easy and when at Lantau catch the bus direct to Big Buddha and cable car or you can get the cable car at the other end on Hong Kong island

I don't know that it will be easy to do too much with a short layover. Probably just around Lantau island is safer
