The area
Neighbourhood: Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

    Small market
Our family of two adults, a 9 year old and a 6 year old visited here during the busy Chinese New Year holidays. We were staying in the near by Eaton Hotel so this was just around the corner from us. We visited one night after dinner to experience the night market. It was busiest where the food stalls were located and they had a range of seafood and meat options as well as desserts and of course, stinky tofu! The goods market wasn't that busy and I didn't feel there was as much of a range as say Ladies Market in Mong Kok or Stanley Market on Hong Kong island. It was quite small and repetitive. Still, a nice visit and we also enjoyed the nearby seafood restaurants where you can see all the fresh and live seafood displayed outside - classic Hong Kong. Enjoy!

A very average hour of tourist trap gimmicks
Centrally located tourist trap that sells a thousand types of gimmicks. Approximately a ten minute stroll through traders stalls for about 400mtrs, there are some street food stalls at the northern end. You'll see a lot of beggars sat on the street and you need to be aware of the pickpockets that will follow tourists looking for opportunity. Beyond the stalls there is nothing more to see, this took less than an hour.

    Visit this lady's store
Gravitated to this street more because it was brightly lit compared to those surrounding it. Not as many stores as it used to have pre-covid, and a lot of stores are quite repetitive. Not say very cheap items are available as well, there was a guy who tried to bargain me for 3 shirts at hkd320, which is still a lot for a basic cheap quality shirt. know what you want, and the quality that the price should have besides that, we liked this 1 store near the temple street archway. there was an old lady selling keychains and 3d puzzles at a really cheap price (3 for hkd50). we bought 2 rounds, walked the entire street, and decided to come back to get even more souvenirs from her. she was so nice to even give us a discount. do visit her, she is so sweet

There were many stalls selling clothings, souvenirs, food, etc
We have not been back to Temple Street for years, and popped by on a Saturday evening. There were many stalls selling clothings, souvenirs, food, etc, but somehow it lacked the charm of yesteryear. The prices at the food stalls are not exactly cheap but the street market is quite pretty when taken at the right place.

    It's a fun place. Men's Quarter.
I've visited a few times. I bought men's underwear and reusable bags at low prices. They also sold erotic goods (laughs). I was also interested in fortune-telling, but I didn’t use it because I didn’t know if I could speak Japanese.

Must see when in Hong Kong
There are lots of street markets in Hong Kong and this is one of the more popular ones. It's a long strip of food and shopping stalls. Great place to purchase souvenirs. Lots of different food available especially the traditional foods. It's a nice atmosphere at night with the lights. Highly recommend.

    Had a great experience.
Great experience heading to the temple market. We went there at about 5 pm They were starting up their small little carts . To get ready for a hectic night of customers. But you will need to be careful there as there are random pick pockets there. I enjoyed the experience of different kinds of food. From sweet to savoury. There was food I would never try. But I thought that's go to the deep end and try animals intestines etc in a pot. Squid was my favourite great flavour. And soft to eat. Wasn't even chewing. Best so far. Fresh fruit to Japanese cake as dessert Head there for a different experience. The other end had things to look at, from clothing to bags etc. If you are in love with seafood try the squid there

    A market for tourists
It’s somewhat overated & no more special than the other markets than you can happen across in Hong Kong but it is at least an designated area you can go to where you know what you are going to find. It’s largely aimed at tourists & if you speak to locals they’d probably tell you it’s the last place they would go to. Prices seemed more inflated than we saw elsewhere but you can of course barter and they will expect you to haggle. It would be rare for one of the vendors to let you walk away without buying something after an negotiation!

    evening market
One of the most famous markets in Kowloon. There are many souvenir stands for tourists and a street with many bsncarelle of street food. Cute market to make some purchases at low prices. It is also open in the evening until about 22

If you've already been to ladies market you can save it.
Very similar to the ladis market, although the main difference is that in the ladies, market sell good souvenir products and apart around, there are shops of all kinds such as jewelry, anime products. Restaurants and technology, therefore, I think it's better to tour. Leidis markets than this one.

Temple Street Night Market is one of Hong Kong's largest and most vibrant shopping streets. This shopping and food festival starts every night from around 6pm, but it really starts after the sun sets. Temple Street Night Market in Kowloon is about 300 meters northwest of Jordan MTR Station (Exit A).

It’s still worth a visit but covid has taken its toll. I am sure it will recover slowly as visitors return. It is a great place to absorb the night vibe in safety. I travelled solo this time and didn’t hesitate to come here at night and enjoyed eating and wandering.

⚐ Zhan Zai Kee Noodles
Shop G/F, 300 Temple Street, Jordan

I've been shopping around Temple Street for a while but can't find it.
It turned out to be Baoling Street, close to Aoniu.
The flow of people is constant and there are many foreign tourists.

The store only sells three treasures
🦐Wontons 🐟Dace fish balls 🐂Fresh beef

🥢
Single $𝟑𝟒 / Double $𝟒𝟎 / Lo Mein +$𝟔
If you use a large bowl, the coarse alkali water will have a strong smell, but it is still acceptable.
Lo Mein fish soup is fragrant and sweet, no MSG
▸ Wanton wontons $𝟒𝟎
▸ Fresh beef wontons $𝟒𝟔
The wontons are really as big as ping pong waves🤩
Each wonton contains three large pieces of fresh, juicy shrimp.
The fresh beef is a surprise! Very tender and juicy😍
There is absolutely no trace of the food being processed, pickled or overdone.
Add two sweet tender cabbage hearts and oyster sauce👍🏻

▸ Fried Wonton (Large) $𝟒𝟓
When fried, you can see a few fine particles falling off.
But there are also three large shrimps, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Focus on the sweet and sour sauce for another taste

▸ Clam and mustard fish balls (large) $𝟒𝟓
The dace balls are as big as ping pong waves🤤
The taste is soft and bouncy, not moldy.
The clam mustard sauce is really delicious and the clam meat is added to the noodles
Salty and delicious, but I personally think the alcohol taste is a bit strong

We ate some fried dumplings and some fried beef with vegetables at one of the food stalls. It tasted fine but cost a small fortune considering there were only a few bites of food for each of us. A small snack at the price of a full meal outside the food street.

As we left, we saw the owner open a cheap bag of industrially-made dumplings, from which she poured more onto the griddle. Her profit margin must be astronomical.

Further down the street, there are stalls with the worst tourist junk and fake products like Apple phone accessories.

You might find Temple Street Night Market quite photogenic, but eat your food outside the area.

The pandemic severely impacted the Temple Street Night Market. Sadly, only a few stalls opened at night, making the street be dull and boring. Some local restaurant overcharged the food, and the "workers" with the "guards" on both sides of the street turned it into somewhere quite dangerous. Not recommended at all!

Maybe this market is better in summer but off season.... it’s just an overpriced market in January with sad, bored stall holders. It’s been publicised enough times now that you should barter by 50 % that the prices here are not close to lining up with others in Hong Kong. I saw no one cooking on the street, and only a few places in permanent shop front cooking fresh to order. The famed “spicy crab” restaurant is to be avoided, from where we sat watching, patrons were smoking inside, Touters were herding people into it with Unwelcome force. And we could see dishes being delivered from some unknown kitchen by clueless staff who had no idea where to take it. I’m sure it would be cold, and members of a pArty would never be eating together

According to locals, the market had only just opend up again after COVID at the beginning of September. I imagined it to be like the ladies market (see Ladies Market review) just at night, but it was a lot smaller. With about 10 vendors it took us about 15' to walk through and since most of them offered the same products, there was no real use to stay longer. Maybe this is one of the areas that needs to recover some more.

I enjoy night markets, I really do and was excited to check out some of the night markets in Hong Kong. I liked walking through the market here, I don't think I would do this more then once, it just seemed after the first ten minutes the items started to become repetitive. The vendors were selling cheap products, things I normally would never buy. You might get lucky and find a small souvenir or something. Worth a walk through but not a must!

This is a typical street market like you can find in any touristic area around the world. There is not only Temple street night market, but several other street markets adjacent such as Ladies market, but they are all the same: it is the place to be to buy souvenirs, but make sure to bargain for real because some charge the 10-fold of what you end up paying in the end. If they do not follow your bargaining, don't worry, there will be another shop that will.

I have travelled through much of Asia, whilst this had some good street food and a nice atmosphere, it was nothing compared to other night markets like in Taiwan, Thailand or South Korea for example. Very pretty with the lights.  Go in the evening.  I went around 19:00.  As you enter, you will find the street food stalls. I tried some seafood dishes from a few different stalls.  All were delicious.  Divine.  Most were spicy but I can take spice.  Just let the vendor know if you want less spice.  I had cash with me (small change) but I noticed some stalls accepted card too. Have small change as they prefer cash. It wasn't as cheap as I expected for a night market.  After this, you will find the usual bags, souvenirs, handicrafts, junk and more.  None of it was very appealing.  I just briefly browsed.  Vendors were not pushy or anything. Most were pleasant. To be honest, the food area was more lively.  Not a huge market at all compared to other ones I have seen. Pretty small to be honest. One straight road.  Nearest MTR is Jordan.  I went twice. The Monday evening was a lot quieter than the Thursday evening. Clean. I saw some tourists looking horrified and not wanting to try or touch anything.  This is part of travel.  To engage in the culture.  I have never (touch wood) after seeing much of the world, gotten sick from eating street food.  Of course you need to be wary in certain countries, but here it was totally fine.
