Great base for our three day get-away here in Hong Kong. Plenty of restuarants and shops. Great new hotel - Sheraton Tun Chung 5 star experience! 15 minute taxi ride to beach or Disney

For most of those living in Hong Kong , Tung Chung is a place which is very far from the hot and happening town area and is mostly used as a gateway to the Big Buddha or a transit point for some trails. This is a place which has many hidden delights. Many a beautiful trails start from here and the location of Tung Chung is perfect in the sense that neither does it have the chaos of its more glamorous neighbours nor is it without its own hustle bustle. And basically, you have almost everything which you need to lead a good life is here.
Tung Chung is beautiful place with a beautiful waterfront and you can spend hours staring at the sunset and the moon and the mountains and the water. The place is characterised by lush greenery and vistas of the Tung Chung Bay which opens into the South China Sea.
It is surrounded by mountains on all sides and is very clean and green.
There is an awesome outlet Mall by the name of Citygate and a Novotel hotel right next to the Mall. Very near to the airport.

Tung Chung is residential city along the northwestern coast of Lantau Island near Chek Lap Kok (Hong Kong International Airport). Historically, this area was a fishing village that dates back as far ad the Song Dynasty. However, what you see today is the result of a new town development project that took place in the 1990s as part of introducing the nearby new and larger airport to Hong Kong.
These days, Tung Chung is dominated by high rise residential towers, shopping complexes including CityGate Outlets, the largest mall on Lantau Island. There is an airport service hotel, restaurants, MTR Station and bus terminus, linking Tung Chung to the airport, other areas around Lantau Island and greater Hong Kong area.
Interesting things to do around Tung Chung include the Ngong Ping 360 cable car which scales up the mountain to the Big Buddha Statue and Po Lin Monastery. The cable car terminus is just outside the MTR Station and bus terminus. There are historic sights such at the Tung Chung Fort, Battery and Hau Wong Temple as well as access to hiking trails including the 5.7 km trail up to the Ngong Ping Village.

While most travellers usually spot hotel deals in Hong Kong Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and places with HK's busy areas, Tung Chung is great for those who are looking for the country side feel but with a modern taste. Tung Chung is really near the airport and very much accessible to public transport going to the central areas. The MTR and public buses are very efficient in the area (also in all areas of HK). There's also a lot of hidden gems in Tung Chung, really enjoyable place. The travel can be long if coming from HK's central areas but it's very safe. It's also just one stop and one interchange from the Disneyland resort line.

Tung Chung is the only major urban area in Lantau Island. The small town itself has some interesting sites. With Hong Kong's only outlet mall and base to explore Tai O or Ngong Ping, it also offers a glimpse into the city's maritime past. The sight of old fishing boats and historic ruins adds colour to any visit.

Are there luggage lockers at Tung Chung station? We would like to go to Lantau on the day we leave Hong Kong. We would check our cases in at Kowloon Station but would like to leave our carry-on luggage somewhere rather than carry it around all day.
What transport would we catch to the airport at the end of the day?
