One of the interesting Relics of Tung Chung is the Tung Chung Battery located just off Tung Chung Road North and accessible by way of the Tung Chung Battery Trail which provides connection to nearby CityGate Shopping Mall and the MTR Station.
The Tung Chung Battery was built in 1817 and was stationed with 30 Qing soldiers, tasked with protecting the coastline area around Tung Chung from bandits and pirates. Not much information about service or conflicts nor dates on when the battery was likely abandoned. The nearby Tung Chung Fort was evacuated after the New Territories was leased to the British in 1898 so most likely some time before then.
Interestingly, this Battery structure was then overtaken by vegetation and lost in history, forgotten about for nearly a century until rediscovered in 1980. In 1983 it was given a Declared Monument status and as such is now a protected monument in Hong Kong. All that is left of the Battery is a section of the L-shaped wall that would have contained a corner platform. Some stone ruins rest on the ground around, these would have been part of the remaining wall around the battery long ago.
When visiting the Tung Chung Battery, you will notice a small fenced in area with a large cover. If you look inside, you will find the remains of the ancient Fu Tei Wan Lime Kiln which is believed to date back to the Tang Dynasty, making it approximately 12 or 13 centuries old. This relic was discovered at Chek Lap Kok but relocated here in 1991 prior to construction on Hong Kong's present airport.

This was a naval defense point during mid-Qing Dynasty. Unfortunately nothing is intact today and the airport blocks the scenery to a large extent. Not really worth visiting as it takes an uphill walk from Tung Chung MTR station.

Its a nnice gem of tung chung hidden in plain site. Few locals appreciate it but it is well preserved.
Many people struggle to locate this gem but it is very easy. From Tung Chung Mtr station, exit from Exit B, you will see bus terminus infront of you and a water fountain on your left. Walk to water fountain and you will see people going to Ngong Ping 360 cable car and a Post Office, walk along the post office walking path for public and then turn left and walk straight along the road. You will reach a pedestrian crossing of Shun Tung Road, cross the road using pedestrian crossing and turn immediate right. On your left you will see stairs going up. Just take those stairs to a small hill, this hill is part of battery too but nt many realize it. After climbing, you will immediately start descending, after descending you will see tung chung battery on your right hand side.
Follow the same road/path into the village and keep on walking on the path which will lead you inside Ma Wan Chung, after a minute of walk you will see few stairs and will end up in Yat Tung Estate, from here walk through Yat Tung Estate and you will see Tung Chung Fort..

The Battery is situated uphill from the old Tung Chung pier (the smuggler's den where lobsters are shipped via speedboat to the mainland).
The easiers access is through the old village next to the Yat Tung towers and walk towards the sea. Once you get to the pier, head uphill about 100 meters.
An ancient kiln has also been re-located there which dates back to the 7th or 8th century. Way older than the battery.

Tung Chung has a little know gem call Tung Chung Fort which is situated at the foot of some hills opposite Yat Tung Estate. It's not well known and not everybody knows were it is. Though it has featured in some history books, it is perhaps one of the smaller and unique yes in Hong Kong. Tung Chung Fort overlooks the Tung Chung Bay and what is now Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong International Airport. Back then Chek Lap Kok was only a small village on an island. Whilst Yat Tung Estate didn't exist.
What few know is that there is a smaller fortress on the side of the hill by Tung Chung Bay. This used to be the first point of contact and supported by the larger Tung Chung Fort. It was completed in 1817 and was part of Hong Kong's coastal defence network. Back then, China did not have a strong navy and relied on coastal forts for defence. Hong Kong was also harassed by pirates such as Cheung Po Tsai and with weak forces, meant the local government did not have control of their shores.
To get to Tung Chung Battery from Tung Chung MTR, you walk out of the station and onto Shun Tung Road and at the end, you cross the road to the right, where you can see the police station. There is a subway that you can use, but you have to go down the bank on the left side of the path. Carry on walking once you reach the surface, you're on Yu Tung Road and after 5 minutes, you see a big building, this is North Lantau Hospital. Turn right and follow the path down. There is a slip road with a Thai restaurant, you can go through there or use the other path down the road. Carry on walking and you will see the Tung Chung Community Centre and a church. Carry on walking on that road. It goes down and up, so it might not be easy for everybody. The road then has a 90 degree bend. Tung Chung Battery is there, but it is not well signposted. Down the hill is a small village with a seafood restaurant a public toilets. The pier is well used by the locals of the village. The locals go swimming in the bay, so feel free to drop in.
Not much is left of Tung Chung Battery, but a few walls and a corner unit where a cannon was once mounted. A little up the bank is metal cage structure with a dome. You see this as you come in, but you might not notice what it actually is.
