Once again with Young Pioneer Tours I had an incredible time on a recent tour of The Kingdom of Jordan.

The key with this tour company is they treat you like family, they have very small groups, they give you individual attention, it's like you are traveling with your own family, which is how they treat you.

We had local guides and drvivers taking care of us, in addition to Gareth Johnson, who is the founder of Young Pioneer Tours and also the founder of the Principality Islandia.

Gareth did a superb job of muliti tasking, arranging for a copies of passports, getting SIM cards, finding the best places to get local souvenirs, arranging meals at traditional restaurants, entertaining in his personal hotel suite at night , for those who wanted to have some drinks but not in a bar, he also arranged security clearances. He did some of this while trying to find a toilet!! A true expert at multitasking.

If you want to have "FUN" sign up with Young Pioneer Tours🤩

Even as a not so young pioneer I enjoyed the days in Sudan to the full.
Abdullah cared for everyone‘s needs and guided us with his expertise and insight, even with dance and song.
Not all went according to plan, but inshallah!, these are challenging conditions, which have to be accepted.
I will certainly look out for new destinations offered by YPT, wishing Gareth Johnson many more fruitful inspirations.

Highly recommend Young Pioneers Tours - from pre-trip organization and communication to trip execution, everything was terrific! The tour guide was personable, accommodating, flexible and extremely organized!

Tours are budget friendly, and the itinerary of my trip was expertly organized according to the budget. I was also pleasantly surprised at the level of accommodation for a budget tour - the hotels and amenities/areas selected for overnight were ideal! Thanks YPT for organizing a great tour!

I plan to do future trips with the YPT team, most definitely!

I just got back from my third trip with YPT, and I know already that it will not be the last one.
There are a few reasons why I always look at their travels page with the utmost interest.
The first one is the most difficult to explain, as it's that unique YPT feel that can be perceived only by trying them. Just like my other trips to DPRK and Syria, this Sudan trip came with experiences that will last a lifetime.
Then there are the guides (in this case Gareth Johnson). They have always walked the extra mile to make possible things that other people wouldn't even start to consider.
Last but not least, their tours tend to attract some of the most interesting people I have ever known, so every day there is a good chance you'll have a great time, and you'll start seeing the world from a different perspective.

As for Sudan, you will not find the egyptian grandeur, but a country unspoiled by mass tourism, where it's still possible to have an intimate, precious experience with a history spanning millennia.

Sudan picked-up from where I left off in Libya (also with Young Pioneer Tours) three months ago.

The tour, led by the amiable Abdullah and the affable Gareth, covered a lot in one week, and satisfied my rampaging curiosity about Sudan.

Some of the gems we visited: the 14th-century BCE Temple of Soleb, Sabu-Jaddi rock art site, the ancient city of Kerma, statue of a Kushite king near Tombos, Sufi graves from the 17th century near the medieval city of Old Dongola, interior of the tomb of King Tantamani (650 BCE) in El-Kurru, pyramid tombs of Kushite kings & queens at Jebel Barkal, Nuri, and Meroë.

Yes! Sudan has a dizzying number of pyramids — it has way way more pyramids than Egypt!

It was an extraordinary adventure filled with many enduring memories.

I spent one week with YPT and our amazing tour leader Gareth Johnson and local tour leader Abdullah in the desert of Sudan and in Karthoum. Everything was very well organized and the spirit within the whole group was rocking everything I have seen before. Going on tours with YPT feels extremely safe, adventurous and funny at the same time. They really know what they are doing and I am looking forward to more trips in 2023.

I spent the last four weeks travelling through Cuba, Colombia and Ecuador with YPT and had a fantastic time. This was my third YPT tour (I did the Eurasian Adventure Tour in November 2021 and Belarus in February 2022) and like always, YPT delivered and organised a fantastic tour. Our tour guide, Alistair, took us to lots of unique places, like a secret missile bunker in Cuba, the place where Pablo Escobar was shot or a cave in the countryside you could swim in. He always went the extra mile and made sure everything was taken care of. He also tailored the tour and activities to our interests and is extremely knowledgeable about the region, its culture and history. If you want to go on a tour where you see all the main sights, but also visit some unique places that are unknown to most tourists, this is the tour to do!

I did the Divided Cyprus Tour in November 2022. I travelled with YPT before and I love their obsession with unrecognized countries and revolutionary movements and that they do tours that are always away from the beaten paths and involve urbex activities. And they all do this on a budget and with a cool crowd.
Also in Cyprus we got to see abandoned villages, the military parade on the national day of the North or just made friends with locals we met here and there.
The group was a blend of younger and young-feeling travel nerds that all wanted to see more than the usual tourist spots. We became friends in no time and also enjoyed a little bit of partying in the evenings.
The guide in Cyprus Rowan really took care about everybody, it felt more like travelling with a friend rather than with a tour company. And also Alistair, the guy that organized the tour in the background did a great job finding places even local tourist guides hadn’t heard about.
Accomodation is always a bit on the basic side, don’t expect fancy, but just practical. The Cyprus trip involved one really luxurious hotel though - a pleasant surprise.
I can only recommend to travel with YPT to new places and certainly will visit more unusual countries with them.

I did both the Egypt and Cyprus tours. Absolutely phenomenal experience. Tour guides were top notch. The group was comprised of a diverse and interesting crowd.

Our first tour in Egypt was led by Mostafa. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us navigate the tricky waters of Cairo expert Lee. He curtailed the tour to what we were most fascinated. Our Egyptian guide, Shima, was world class, and extremely knowledgeable. Our fixer for the black and white desert, Hanny, was amazing. And a wonderful cook!

Next, in Cyprus, our main guide was Rowan. Not only did he make the tour extremely interesting and riveting with his knowledge and experience, he was absolutely hilarious; breathing life and color into every moment. Gimel, our North Cyprus guide, was one of the most knowledgeable I’ve ever seen. Such a wonderful experience!

Not my first with Young Pioneer Tours so I’m glad to enjoy the company of Gareth Johnson, founder of YPT. He’s such a genius for starting this tour company that allows us to experience the hard to reach destinations on our own.

I’m a grandma and yet I don’t feel out of place traveling with people half my age coz it’s usually composed of fun and open minded individuals who share the same interests.

Don’t hesitate to book the Business of War Tour in Jordan. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and Gareth made it possible. I never thought that I’d be rubbing elbows and joking with generals (even got invited to dinner 😆😆😆).

For years, no trip has surpassed my trek to Everest Base Camp. But this one was unbelievably surreal that I also consider this as number 1.

Thanks so much to Roy Chung, Paris, Adeeb (our local Bedouin guide) and Gareth for a job well done. Right now, I’m checking my calendar to fit in another YPT trip. Cheers!!!
