A different vibe from the stone walls of Jerusalem. We pretty much had a good exercise here starting from the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist all the way up to the Church of the Visitation. Also had a good respite cooling down in a popular ice cream parlor here. .

This village is associated with John the Baptist and Mary. However the whole area is like a leafy suburb with quaint shops and interesting walks. This is in addition to the religious sites here. You can reach the place by bus from central Jerusalem but most will come on tour,

We visited the area of Ein Kerem on both of our trips to the Holy Land, most recently last summer. Ein Kerem is significant in that several holy and historic locations are in Ein Kerem such as the birthplace of St. John the Baptist at the Church and Grotto of St. John the Baptist, Mary's spring (from where supposedly the Virgin Mary drew her water), and the Church of the Annunciation(celebrating Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth while she was pregnant with St. John the Baptist).
All are well worth seeing (although there are many numerous steps and slopes to walk to reach the Church of the Visitation.)

Ein Kerem is one of the Jerusalem districts, situated close to the Hadassah Medical Center. For years it used to be the place for artisans and painters, but today not much left from the original romantic beauty of Ein Kerem. Nevertheless, it is worth to visit and spend 2-3 hours, observing old street, beautiful houses and churches.
Among the places to visit are: church of St. John the Baptist, church of Visitation, St. Vinsent, Les Soeures de Notre-Dame de Sion (a must!) and Gorny pravoslav monastery (a must!). The entrance to the last one is from the territory of the Hospital only! Bavare the parking problems, especially at w-ends.

From Nazareth having a distance of 185 km, the birth place of John the Baptist was blessed. The place was the residence of Zachariah and Elizabeth having the prayers and the divine environment, where Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and made the arrangements for Jesus's arrival.

Jerusalem has many areas that are special, Ein Kerem is one of them, like a rural area in the midst of the city, but with attractions that need to be visited.
It is an area very much related to Christianity, the site of the birth of John the Baptist, the church of the Visitation, the Church of St John, the well of Myriam, and also good restaurants, a place that is a must visit in Jerusalem

Beautiful place off the beaten track, full of hidden treasures like quiet courtyards, church gardens, tiny cafes, and springs.

Ein Kerem has one of my favorite private gardens in the country. I love to come out here and walk through the paths and sit and look out over the vistas. clean, with beautiful alleys and churchs, well worth a half day or day trip.
