Yad Vashem is simultaneously educational, heartbreaking, confounding, grief inducing and profound. It is something every tourist who visits Israel must see. Upgrade to the guided tour - you won't regret it.

* Do not use this link to buy your AudioTour. YOU WILL NOT SKIP THE LINE. This link does not work. I tried it -- April 2022. They had my appointed time in the system. I waited at the counter only to be told that I need to wait in the line for AudioTours anyway.
* After waiting in line for the AudioTour, the time it takes for each person at the counter is too long. I had to learn how to use the machine and test it. I hope they upgrade their tech.
* The Audio material is good material. If you learn best by hearing things, get it. It is mostly repetitive to the material in the museum, which includes many short, embedded videos.
* To rent the AudioTour, you must leave something at the desk to assure that you will return with the machine. They prefer passports. I didn't have mine, and I was forced to leave my cell phone as collateral. I did not like doing it.
* The AudioTour has a lot of content. I could not listen to it while also reading all the materials in the exhibits. Later, I asked; I was told the AudioTour has 10 hours of content. I listened to all of the beginning material (101, 102, 103, 104, 105... little in the middle, and most of the ending material (901, 902, 902..) while eating lunch in the cafeteria.
* The museum took me nearly 4 hours. Anyone who does it in 1-2 hours must skip a lot of content and opportunities for reflection. Additionally, I toured the synagogue and other areas of the premises.
* There is no map of the premises. The entrance to the museum is a separate building called The Visitor's Center: there are no signs in English to get to back to it.
* The exhibits are bilingual in Hebrew and in English. They should be trilingual in Arabic too.

Wonderful museum…..extremely well done….organized and full of information…the grounds are beautiful….
Problem: there wasn’t any parking, Although we were with a tour guide in a tour guide SUV, we were unable to park in the tourist parking lot because we weren’t a bus….unacceptable….and disappointing. Tour guide was embarrassed as well….why are ONLY busses aloud to park there….our guide had a badge and the car we were in….was CLEARLY marked as tourist….
Things need to change so that access is available……

There is an underground paid parking available for tourists and tour guides (in an SUV as well).

This is a must visit to make sure that the memories of this genocide stay alive even when the last survivors are gone.
We went with our teen daughter and she was quite moved by what she saw, and even upset at times.
This is not an easy visit but you will remember it your whole life.
The way the story is told is amazing with a progression that allows you to understand how this crime against the Jews was carefully planned and executed.
As one of our Israeli friend advised us, we did not stay more than 3 hours as it can get pretty heavy on you.
Only regret is the big number of groups that were quite noisy and disturbing.

This is a must see place if you are in Jerusalem. I don’t know how to even explain the depth of information and presentation about the Holocaust. We spent about two and half hours using combination of the audio guide and the written explanations. It is a busy place with lots of groups so plan ahead.

The history museum there was quite interesting, you could buy an audioguide at the entrance, but I would recommend not (for English) as there are information boards around the museum. They had a section of pavement from the Warsaw ghetto, a section of train track and wagon from Auschwitz and many other things.
It was slightly ruined by the huge numbers of tour groups being pushed through the museum as they are constant one after the other and they are such big groups that when they stop no one else can get past, they are really annoying and ruin the visit for individual visitors.

Why did this happen? Could it happen again? Those thoughts fill my head as we saw so much. Such tragedy.

There is so much to learn and take in here. 2 hours is not enough to visit everywhere. It is free so plan in a couple of afternoons or a full day.

Good but starting to look tired, some of the videos are not working, stuck on the screen “starting in 2 minutes” the well of the souls looks like it needs to be cleaned or have water added.

does it cover the aspect of the world american jewish congress calling for a boycott of germany in march 1933?
does it show how jews learned from the nazi failure to complete the final solution to the jewish question and applied these lessons in their holocaust against the palestinian people?

No I don't think so. That's probably in the US Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.

For older family who cannot walk - I know there is a shuttle (but not too often) - from the parking lot near the traffic circle on Hertzl blvd down the road to the entrance. Is it possible to drive into the entrance to drop people off? I see there is parking right at the entrance to the site on HaZikaron street - is that only for buses or employees?

I will be in Israel with and 11 year old and a 13 year. I would love for them to see it (I went almost 10 years ago) but I am worried it may not be suitable. The website says age 10 and up, has anyone taken children recently? Do you think it is worth them seeing or should we skip it? Thanks

This is a difficult location for adults to visit; for children it can easily be overwhelming. The path of the visit through the main Yad Vashem building can't be short circuited - you must walk through from beginning to end once you enter. Everything about the Holocaust - both verbal and visual - will be on display as you walk through. You are the only one who can judge whether your children are ready for that immersion into history. That said, there are outdoor grounds, a memorial to the Righteous, a children's memorial, and a hall of remembrance, all of which offer the opportunity to teach and discuss without the photos and films of the Holocaust's brutality. I would also consider starting with books such as Number the Stars (Lois Lowry) or the graphic adaptation of Diary of Anne Frank and see how they react.

What is the easiest & fastest way to get from Tel Aviv to Yad Vashem & back to Tel Aviv? We were not planning to rent a car during our visit to Israel.

You can take a bus from Tel Aviv Bus Station to Jerusalem Bus Station and the the Tram up til Yad Vashem - Herzl Boulevard - the tram ends at Yad Vashem. - you just go a few meters back and then to the left - you will see the big signs.
Kind regards, Otto

I will be with a tour group visiting this museum in November. What if I find this too intense and need to step away? Are there options to leave the tour until it is finished?

You can wait inside and around the reception lobby. Spend more time in the grounds.
Be strong.
