- helenandpaul13Worcester, United Kingdom1,634 contributionsA must doI visited here a couple of times during my visit to the city. It's situated down by the river. First, there are rows of stalls outside selling food, gifts, watches, clothing etc. The clothing is marked "Versace" and "Calvin Klein" but you know it's all fake. However, there are bargains to be had, just remember to haggle for them and don't pay the price as advertised. You will be respected more if you are prepared to negotiate for a bargain. There is live music on every night and at the back is the food area, selling loads of freshly cooked street food in all forms. There are tables around or you could just sit one a rug on the floor and eat and be sociable. I had a meal here with a bottle of water which came to less that $4. I also has a large ice cream afterwards which cost $1. Everyone is very friendly and respectful and what more can a tourist really ask for than being part of a community atmosphere and eating and drinking with the locals for such a low price on a warm spring evening.Visited March 2023Written 18 March 2023
- vashishtha n2 contributionsOne time must visitGood place to shop if your are interested in replicas, I didn’t buy anything so won’t be able to comment on price. The quality look decent as compared to central market. Food stalls and people sitting together as a community is a nice gesture and experience. OK for 1 time visit if you are in Phnom Penh.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 April 2023

Beside clothes and souvenirs, the part of market is food corner. Local food 🥘, soups, noodles 🍝, seafood 🦞 and salads. We ordered fresh and fried spring rolls, fried rice 🍚, chicken and seafood 🦞 soup. Really enjoyed. The place is very good. I found the shop keeper quite rigid. Not ready to bargain. Prices are quite high. And not interested in customer also. Variety is very good. But the central market is better.

There are two things you can get here: clothes and food. Not really a place for souvenirs, btw.
For clothes, it looks like all the same knock-offs you can get anywhere. Is it really worth your precious trip time to shop for T-shirts?
Now, food is another matter. There are two schools of thought about this. Some people revel in being able to eat cheap, and/or get some "amazing" hyper local street food.
Well, being a foodie, I don't worry so much about cheap in absolute terms. I'd rather eat a Michelin-level meal for a third of the price I'd pay back home, and there is definitely such to be found in Phnom Penh. But you get tired of eating that way every single day, so there's an argument to be made for street food... IF it's good. But looking at what's on offer, I can immediately tell the quality is subpar. Take the seafood vendors. Here's an example in my photo -that is clearly imitation prawns, and this is typical of what's on offer. I wouldn't eat it at home, so why eat it when you're on vacation?
Life's too short to eat imitation prawns. Seriously though. My time in Phnom Penh is too short, and there are way too many fabulous restaurants to try, to waste a single meal on a place like this.

Great locals market. Full of people who've come to meet friends, eat (very cheap) street food and browse the shops. Local performers singing to a appreciative crowd. Great place to hang out.

A great place to find local food and local products in Phnom Penh, definitely everything is cheap and negotiable. And I have the best local coconut ice cream.

I collect tiny cats made from various materials from every country I visit. I will be in Phnom Penh in a couple of weeks and am wondering where I can get my Cambodian cat to add to my collection.

The central market has just about everything but can be a bit overwhelming. The night market is smaller and carries mainly clothing but it does have several booths that sell local statues and sculptures. The only other place that I would try is the art district near the national museum. The Tuk-Tuk drivers know how to get to all of those places. Good luck.
