Every weekend, thousands of tourists make their way up to this Northern Bangkok suburb to get lost in an enormous maze of shops at the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Home to almost 10,000 vendors, you’ll find everything from vintage sneakers to comic books and Thai handicrafts being sold here. You name it, Chatuchack probably sells it. The market is a great place to pick up souvenirs, but be sure to bargain for a good price. After a day of shopping and strolling around, the lush green lanes of Chatuchak Park are a welcome relief.

Visited Saturday noon. A lot of the inner stores are still closed. but it looks like the market is coming back to life again.

Perfect time to while away a few hours. DONT attend if claustrophobic or poor sense of direction though as the labyrinth of alleys can catch you off guard.
Haggle and some great deals to be had. Lots of the same so no need to stop at each store. May test a couples patience if shopping together!

If you've been to Chatuchak pre-COVID, you know it was a crowded, mess of fun. It's so much quieter now. Cars are even allowed to park inside the market. But with less shoppers, it's such a better shopping experience. No crowds. You can shop at your pace. Actually have time to talk to some of the vendors, and in many cases, they are the artists. It's so much nicer to shop, now. And, still as many fun and inexpensive things as before!

If you’re a tourist you’ll get bored after 2km of walking around and notice that still are more than 20km of shops to see.
If you’re a shopper, good luck for your wallet.
This is a HUGE market with so many goods to see, select, bargain, buy.
Easy to go if you still have some free time at Bangkok.

Pleny good bargains! You will find everything here! Shopping mekka. Small shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. Easy access for handicapped in Main Street but difficult inside because of tight ally’s. Restroom near every exit.

This is a must visit place if you are in Bangkok. An absolute heaven for people looking for the authentic Thai cheap shopping experience. From first copy Air Jordans, Under Armour tees, Gucci pocket perfumes, souvenirs and a host of other things, you will definitely not go home empty handed.
We took the bus from King Phet and got down at the Chatuchak Park and walked. It opened up at around 6pm on Friday and runs through the weekend. I would highly recommend to go a bit late as shops were just opening up when we reached.

Grab the free brochure (layout plan) at the entrance to facilitate your shopping path/choices.
Though shops are still not 100% open, there’s still lots to see. From street food, clothing to fake & live plants, aromatherapy, antiques, home & living, pets, food, basically all sorts of stuff …so it will save you loads of time if you know what you’re looking for and head straight for the precised path. Otherwise, under the scorching sun, casual strolling or wandering aimlessly could be quite tiring, even if you’re using comfy walking shoes…bcoz it is a huge market. And you will be perspiring no matter what, so dress light/airy, bring a sun hat or cap, use sun screen etc.
If you’re good at bargaining, it will be an advantage. I noticed the further in, the pricer are a tad cheaper.
The toilets located within the market are really badly maintained. My advise is to ask the keeper at the entrance for the location of the mall toilet in your brochure…just in case 😅

Covid has hit the weekend market hard, with a large percentage of the shops closed. All the same, it's still fun to wander around and grab a meal. Access by either BTS and MRT, although MRT drops you right there. Certainly expect the market to be up in full swing before my next visit, so I will expect a better experience in the future.

This might be a stupid question, but on Wednesday nights can you only buy plants or are there other vendors that sell textiles and other souvenirs?

I think on Wednesday nights, you might only be able to buy plants and home decorations because souvenir shops usually open on weekends. If you want to go there, I recommend you go around 4 p.m.; after 8 p.m. the shops are, perhaps, closed due to Covid prevention measures.

Was wondering what Chatuchak Weekend Market is like at night? - as we would prefer to visit about 6PM onwards. Also are there many food stalls? Thankyou.

Most shops inside the Chatuchak market close after sunset but there are plenty of market stalls, shops and food stalls in the surrounding area open during the evening.
