- WikumjBromley, United Kingdom395 contributionsNot essential but worth dropping by if in the areaI wouldn't say this is essential if you've doing the other major temples in Bangkok. It is nearby Chinatown so you could pair it with a visit there if you have the time, but it's not essential. There is a solid gold buddha inside the temple which is the distinguishing featureVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023
- keith yWigginton, United Kingdom39 contributionsGolden Budha visitGetting to the temple is straightforward. I used the MRT and got off at Hua Lamphong station exit 1 which took you out opposite the rail station and a junction. I must have had the look off a confused tourist as an elderly fruit seller pointed in the direction of what I assumed was the temple. After buying some fruit I wandered off in that direction and after 5-6 minutes the temple appears out of nowhere. It does appear lost in its position. The ticket booth is set off to the right hand side and after paying the 100 baht ( for which I would have been happy paying more), I wandered to the bottom of the stairs past a gazebo abbled to show your tickets , but no staff were present. After walking up the stairs with clearly labeled directions I reached the top where there are ample racks to take off your footwear. There was a lift for the less mobile. I was there mid afternoon, and although hot and humid, it was not very busy. You are able to walk round the Budha to appreciate it from all sides but I still could not comprehend it was solid gold. All together an interesting visit that you should allow 30-60 minutes to appreciate the site.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2024
- macedonboyGlasgow, United Kingdom185,662 contributionsHuge Statue of Buddha Made of GoldThis temple is most famous for housing a solid gold statue of Buddha in meditation and calling the earth to witness. The statue is thought to have been created an incredible 600 years ago during the Sukhothai Dynasty. You have to climb about 3 storeys to see the sanctum, but it’s worth it.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 April 2024

- Hungry-sailor86San Fernando La Union, Philippines712 contributionsTruly mesmerisingThis temple is mesmerising. It is incredible to see how much gold is used in devotion for a teacher that lived such a simple life and shows the devout reverence he is held in. My young son was amazed by what he was seeing and his attention was fully occupied for the trip. We stayed for an hour, heard all about the temple and wandered around observing the daily routines. Well worth a visit!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 June 2024

Average and a commercial Buddha Temple. One can totally give it a pass. There is entry ticket for all visitors and only female are insisted to cover their sleeves and below their knee. Men can wear shorts. Scarfs can be rented to cover hand and knee at 100THB. Having visited many monasteries in India (Tawang, the largest in India) and Bylakuppe this is a very ordinary and average visit!

Yet another stunning temple in Bangkok. We were so lucky to visit in February with stunning sunny bright blue sky which brings all the gold leaf and the glitz of this temple to light. Enjoy the culture.

A major highlight in Bangkok. We pre-booked this through TUI tours, and had our own private guide that also took us to the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, and the Marble Buddha.
The Golden Buddha is an absolute must to see, and to hear the history of.
We were there very early in the morning, about 8am, so we escaped the heat, and I imagine it would also get very busy later as the morning goes on.
A must see.

The Golden Buddha is solid gold and about 5 1/2 tons worth something in excess of $38,000,000. It's on the 4th floor of a large shrine and the ceilings are tall. I think Buddha helped me make that climb... it took a little while though.
Very long ago the Buddha was covered in plaster to disguise it from an enemy then invading Thailand.
In the 1930s the temple where it was residing was abandoned and Buddha along with it - temporarily. After moving the Buddha to a new home it was later discovered, in 1955, that there was a golden treasure beneath the plaster.

This beautiful temple is outside the tourist circuit. We actually discovered it by accident. As a matter of fact we were the only tourists here. There were many monks studying and attending classes. The architecture is impressive and one truly enjoy the silent and beauty of the place without any tourists.

I have been to Bangkok 7 times prior and had never visited this temple. What a shame! How beautiful. I read a bunch about it on my way there on the train, to sum up what I’ve learned:
You can’t get there by BTS but can’t take the subway to Hua Lampong station and it’s a quick walk from there. It cost only 40THB to enter the top floor and see the Golden Buddha. There are 2 floors below with a museum of sorts about the history of China Town (this temple is located there) and a souvenir shop.
The temple grounds are beautiful and the Buddha itself is breathtaking! I will absolutely visit again.

A 37.1 million dollar statue In the middle of bustling Chinatown. And that's on 2003 values....
Fascinating to think that for hundreds of years it was covered in plaster in a minor pagoda to hide its true value from invaders.
The Temple building itself was built to house the statue and was unveiled in 2010.
The museum about the state's origins provides an understanding of how such statues are made, albeit it is currently undergoing some renovation.

This temple is an example of the large buddhist population in Thailand. There are stairs to climb and I am not sure if it is wheelchair accessible. The buddhas (2 of them) are very large based on conventional sizes. The gold buddha is estimated to weigh 5.5 tonnes of gold. The temple housing the buddhas are stunning in their architecture. I would visit again.

My fourth time to Bangkok but first time here. Loved it. Near Chinatown so combine it if you are in the area. Really nice. Hardly any tourists but there were quite a few locals and it was nice to observe them doing their rituals. The climb to the top is easy but in the heat, it was tough. Dress respectfully

No fees...there's strict dress code.
No shorts & open shoulders...at the entrance need to leave your shoes outside.

本堂の入り口付近にはありました。寺院の周辺にも何軒もありますが、レスターを優勝に導いたというお守りはどうも違うようです。そちらをご希望なのなら聞けば教えてくれそうです。
