A place to have a pick nick or a barbecue with your friends and family. We can play ball games or ride a bike.

Ada Hayden Park is a haven for wildlife of all kinds, including migratory birds. There is are paved paths with a bridge across the small man-made lake for walking, jogging, and biking. The paths are wheelchair and stroller accessible, with restroom facilities at the north and south ends of the paths. [Note: Restrooms may be closed in colder months.] On summer weekends, a local outdoor store rents kayaks. There are year-round fishing opportunities (even a fishing pier), a picnic pavilion and benches (close to the north parking lot). Volunteers are working to restore the prairie while the City of Ames maintains the park facilities. It is a favorite place for locals and visitors alike!

I was recently here for an event. The park is very clean and well kept. There is plenty of parking and a small shelter with restrooms with running water. There are a number of nice benches and a few picnic tables around the lake. There is a paved path all around the lake for walking, running and biking.
People were fishing and on the water in kayaks and paddle boards. There is a boat ramp but no beach or swimming. No gasoline motor boats are allowed but electric are permitted.
There isn't a lot of shade, but it's a lovely and peaceful place for a walk, picnic and fishing. It's completely accessible for strollers and special needs.

We regularly enjoy the park by walking or kayaking this amazing natural resource that the City of Ames has invested and continues to develop. Truly wonderful place that has a substantial functional purpose in cleaning and supplied water the local aquifer.

Ada Hayden park is a very popular park in Ames for walking, bike riding, fishing, canoeing or kayaking wildlife watching and picnicking. On warm spring, summer and autumn evenings you will see many local residents out walking, jogging, biking and walking their dogs around the large lake. In the winter you can see ice fishing shacks and hardy individuals braving the cold for a brisk walk. For outdoors relaxation and recreation, Ada Hayden park is a must see.
