Starting with the Mayas, up to the early 1900, you get a good feel for the history of Belize. The captions are very informative and easy to read. It can be reached easily with the local bus for about $1. No need to take a cab as the bus stops upon request.

Nice to see that Belizeans are preserving their culture. We have not visited Belize for a few years and can see great improvement in the country. We and extended family visited and we had a great day. Proud to know that someone had the great idea in preserving our culture.

Hit by the hurricane. Food is not good. WAs told that the credit card system did not work. Gave cash change in Belizean which for us we had no need for since we were going to Turniffe island which requires no cash. $$ is poste in Belize but some employees were not truthful about this and were going to keep the change without a word. Fortunately one women spoke up because she felt guilty.
There is a man made "pool-lake" with water slide that kids would like that is surrounded by sand.

The beach is not a beach. It's a swimming hole with very murky water. We wouldn't even set foot in the water. It looked disgusting. We left as soon as another tour bus came and could fet us out of there. Waste of time and money.

Old Belize is a combination of a few things the family of travelers might be looking for. There is a little museum with sections of different historical times in the young independent country. You can spend there no more than 15 min (without a talkative guide). At the exit you can buy local arts and crafts. Next to the shop there is a restaurant where you can order local food (quite expensive comparing to other places but the plates are huge!). The restaurant has a connection with the Cucumber Beach with big water slide and rope jump. All the attractions are accessible for a fee, though.
In general its a very nice place for a family trip.

We did not arrange a tour for Belize during our cruise. This was our first visit, & had read a few "not so positive" reviews about Belize in general~crime rate, dirty city, etc. However, our visit was nothing like this. I did not find the area we were in to be dirty. We stopped for a drink, then went out to the taxi area, where we met the owner of "Finga Tipps". What a nice man! He took us on a tour of the city, pointing out interests & telling us the history on the way. He recommended Old Belize, since we told him we wanted something quiet where we could swim. This place is just beautiful!! And, there were only less than 10 other people there!
We started out with a delicious lunch at the restaurant, then out to swim, play volleyball, play on the swing (you swing out into the water), and slid down an awesomely high water slide!! There were little tiki tables, lounge chairs, bath houses, showers, music, and lifeguards. We stayed for just over 3 hours, and had a wonderful time! We would have loved to stay longer, but we had to board our tender to get back to our ship, which our guide got us to in plenty of time! When he dropped us off, he told us exactly what time he'd be back, but if were ready to leave earlier, to just let the staff know & they would call him & he'd be back.
Our time in Belize was great! If we're ever able to return, we'll know where to go!

My kids love adventure as such my wife and I try to provide some adventure for them as much as time permits us. They have been to Old Belize natural swimming pool for many times and all the times my response to slide was NO! Well, this time around my other kids were climbing and sliding and my kids were looking at me as the most unreasonable Dad in the world. So, I gave in. They went up and slid a couple of times with great excitement. Then they can and said, "Dad you should try." Hell NO! I wasn't going up that thing and kill myself in the process. After much persuasion, I gave it a trial. Men, it was like falling from heaven and when I hit the water? It was a great splash and I went in. Truly to my my kids words, It was a great experience but not for an old man like me. They can keep going at it but for me, no thanks.

Paid $10 per person for the beach/swimming/tubes/water slide(giant)/table and lounges - well worth the money. People were friendly, only bad part was the ride to the place - had my daughter thinking it was her last trip. We ate at the restaurant and had very generous portions of very good food, pina colada was great and they have a good gift shop with better prices than in the port itself. Will be back for more next time!

Entrance fee got us access to the beach including water slide, beach chairs and umbrellas. Restaurant food was ok. We hit the gift shop. Outdoor bar.
The one down side was that the museum was closed for renovations!
