If you can manage it, and it's the boat we rode from Caye Caulker to San Pedro get a seat up top. Inside will be hot and crowded with not the best seats but so much fun! And beautiful view out the portholes! Bring water and use the washroom before you get on.

I like adventurous things. I thought taking the ferry would be more fun than the short flight. 30 cab ride to ferry dock. 1.5 hours to San Pedro. Fully enclosed boat. Packed in like sardines. Breathing heavy engine fumes the whole way. Not like BVI or any where else I've done the ferry.

Booked online in advance for $25 US round trip to Caulker from Belize City. No issues at all. Everything was on time. All the folks working there were totally professional. They had company polo shirts and were very polite.
In Belize City I hadn't even gotten off the bridge and one of the baggage handlers asked me for my luggage. I wasn't expecting that so I told him that I had to check in first. He then approached me at the ticket counter and asked for my bag again. This time I walked with him and he gave me a receipt for the bag. I apologized, because honestly, at first, I didn't know if a person asking for my bag at the bridge was some kind of scam. I told him it was my first time doing this. He understood and said it was no problem and then wished me a good time on the island.
The ferries were on time both going and coming back. Boarding was first come first served with no preference for women and children as another reviewer had mentioned. The ride was fun and part of the sight seeing as far as I was concerned. The boat was probably a third tourist and the rest locals, which as nice on both counts. Staff helped women and men out of the ferry (some Caribbean countries I've been to the men don't like touching other men even in a situation like helping a customer into a boat).
I highly recommend this operation to anyone going to Belize. The ferry option allows much more contact with the country and it's people and conditions on the ground than just taking a plane at two or three times the cost and experiencing nothing but another plane ride.

Took the round trip from Belize city to Caye Caulker and both times it was on time. The boarding process was weird as they let every women, kids, and old people first. Meaning that if you're a Male under 60, you board last. It was choppy going there and OK coming back. $25 round trip wasnt bad and 45 minutes to Caye Caulker.

They are very professional and do their best to accommodate any special needs. Although we had none we did watch as they helped a number of people with some issue or another as far as mobility. Very Friendly and the only way to travel............

The ride is what you would expect for a water taxi, it was rough pretty much all the way out to San Pedro, which took about an hour and a half. If you purchase a roundtrip ticket you don't have to specify what time you want to be brought back to Belize City, which is nice. The boat was full, but not over crowded. The cushions helped with the roughness, but it was a long ride. I think the further back on the boat you sit the less rough it is. he dock in San Pedro is in the middle of the city. If you know where your resort or hotel is, it is probably within walking distance. For us it was $35 US a person for roundtrip. There are less time slots available than the water taxi, but it met our needs. We got to the airport super early, like 8:00 for our 12:05 flight and the airport doesn't open/let anyone through until 8:30. We didn't know it wasn't going to be very busy. It did pick up later though.

We purchased 2 one way tickets from Belize City to San Pedro, as we didn't know when we would return. A few hours later, when we arrived at the terminal, I asked about paying for a return ticket, and was told this was not possible. I spoke to two different clerks who were very unhelpful, and finally decided to walk 250m down the street to the Belize Express Water Taxi terminal, where I was able to purchase two open return tickets, and the staff were much more helpful. Although it appears the Ocean Ferry return tickets may have been "open" also (good for any sailing within 30 days), they do not state this on the online site, and require you to choose a sailing. I gave Ocean Ferry a chance to respond twice by email, and have been ignored, so I will not use them again. They may be a few dollars cheaper, but their competition often has specials on (especially from San Pedro-Caye Caulker) which make them less costly, and their staff and boats are top notch. Ocean Ferry needs to do a lot better to get my business next time.

I have used water taxis between San Pedro and Caye Caulker before, but needed to take one from Belize City to Caulker, since the airport is closed. My hotel recommended Ocean Ferry Belize. For some reason, I had never stumbled on them before, and always used one of the other services. I really was missing out! OFB is fantastic! Their website is great for booking, and the chat function turned out to be helpful in several ways. They offered to arrange a taxi for us from the airport to the ferry, and that was great. Service was perfect, The boat is a typical water taxi; don't expect comfort, but it is fine, and the price is super! I will probably still fly from Belize City to San Pedro so that my students get that experience, but from San Pedro to Caulker, and then from Caulker back to Belize, I will definitely use Ocean Ferry Belize.

When we took Ocean Ferry, it seemed like they have more locals, while Belize Express Water Taxi has more tourists. Ocean Ferry is a little cheaper and less crowded, while Belize Express has nicer boats and more frequent trips. I was happy with our choice of Ocean Ferry.

This ferry was very efficient, clean and they handled our travel bikes with care. The staff were very kind and eager to help and answer any questions you have. We paid for our tickets online before arriving. Once there, you go to the window with your paid ticket and they give you the boarding passes. We went from Belize City to San Pedro first. They stop in Caye Caulker on the way. Belize City to Caye Caulker was @ 45min ride and then there for maybe 10 minutes and then from there to San Pedro was @ another 30 min. They load and unload all of your luggage for you. The schedule is like clockwork. We spent 3 days at San Pedro and 2 days at Caye Caulker. Having this ferry to go between islands, it's worth going to both. Professional service.

Thank you for the review of the water taxi service from Belize City. How long was your round trip without the "unscheduled" stops.

It is just over 90 minutes to San Pedro (one way), including a short stop at Caye Cauker. Another word of warning - their website says rates are from $25 round trip. But the link does not work. When we walked up and paid, it was close $35 per person with all fees, and that was for one way.

We will be arriving on Princess Caribbean cruises ship on August 29, a Wednesday at 7 am. Considering the tender and the walk to the Ferry dock, is it reasonable to book the 8 am or is the 10:30 more realistic for a cruise passenger? On the return, the ship departs at 6 pm, is the 430 back to belize cruise port too late or should we book the 130? Im estimating 30 minutes for tender and 45 minutes for the ferry times. If I book the 8 am but cant make the time, can I switch the ticket to a later time like 10:30 or am I out of luck? Please advise.

I'd go with early rather than late, but that's my style. The drive from/to the airport is approximately 20-25 minutes. The ferries were on time in my experience. Have fun!

I keep seeing conflicting information about how much the ferry should cost and that some passengers have paid double what it should cost because they were duped into paying in $25 USD when it should really be $25 BZE for example. How much does it really cost in USD for a round trip ferry ticket to Caye Caulker? I know what I see on the ferry websites, but hearing from other travelers and even seeing some of the rates posted on hotel websites say the rates should be half of what's posted on the ferry websites.

I booked through their website for a rondtrip from Belize City to San Pedro, the cost was US $35.00 per person. There was no misunderstanding about the price, nor was there any attempt to change the price. Just print your tickets and your receipt and you should be good to go.

Is the schedule the same on Good Friday 30 Mar 18 from San Pedro to Belize City?
Written 23 February 2018
While the phone system is not so great in Belize, internet is satisfactory. The ferry company makes good use of the availability and does lots of their business electronically. You can definitely get your answer with the most current information by checking the website or by chatting through the website. If you get there early and need to grab a bite to eat, Check Neri's two blocks away for an inexpensive typical Belizean meal.

Family of 5 will be traveling to Ambergris Caye. Is there room for luggage?
Written 24 January 2017
When big families travel, it is best to use the boat and not the plane. This is because the planes have limits for luggage while boats don't. There is plenty of room!
