- AUav8rGolden, Colorado382 contributionsOverhyped and horrible signageIt's a very pretty area but overpriced drinks at the local establishments. If you are on Ambergris Caye for over a week and looking for something else to do, go to Secret Beach. If you are there for a short period of time, don't bother. Also, the local gov't really needs to put up signs for navigation purposes.Visited November 2022Written 18 December 2022
- jenBixby, Oklahoma23 contributionsNice beach annoying set upBeautiful beach, we had a good time but it took quite a while to get there by golf cart and unfortunately there are a LOT of beach sales going on. Everyone was nice but it was annoying. Still a really enjoyable afternoon in the water.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 January 2023
- StlmamaSaint Louis, Missouri26 contributionsOnce was enoughSo, everyone tells you to go to Secret Beach - tour guides, restaurant servers, you name it. I would recommend if you are on a short trip of a few days, don’t prioritize this place. It’s a party atmosphere, so I think it’s probably more fun for those who want to hang out and drink. We went on a weekday, and thankfully it was not too crowded. Otherwise it’s just lounge chairs packed in to every available space. While the water is pretty, there is hardly any beach. Food was good and service was great. We were not hassled too much by vendors. It was relaxing, but we could have been just as chill back at the resort. Yes, the drive there is rough. Just like almost all of Belize! But you do drive through some pretty mangrove areas, which was particularly nice on the drive back towards evening. Bottom line - Secret Beach is something to do for an afternoon, but there a lot more interesting things to spend your time on when in Belize.Visited January 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 January 2023
- RainSeattleMomIssaquah, Washington490 contributionsOur Favorite DayThis is not a destination. It is a journey. My 20-year-old daughter drove the golf cart, and was having the bumpy time of her life. We actually were one of the first people to make it out there in the late morning. We parked by the big sign, and sat at the first bar - pirates. There were a lot of people next door sitting on plastic chairs with neon green umbrellas, and I wondered why on the world they would choose that place over the weathered looking pirate bar with picnic tables in the water! I absolutely loved it! We stayed for a few hours drinking cocktails, swimming and taking photos. I brought a snorkel mask just for fun, but there aren't rock formations so most of the fish are visable from the beach. Sand fleas weren't an issue for us because we didn't walk around a lot on the beach, but they are definitely there. I felt like I was in Margaritaville. It was relaxing and fun.Visited December 2022Written 30 January 2023
- tmbocPasadena, California200 contributionsA Piece of HeavenI was hesitant to go as I figured it was a huge tourist trap. BY FAR THE BEST BEACH ON THE ISLAND! Do not miss it. Spectacular as far as the eye can see. While Belize is often windy, this beach is located on the other side of the island so water very calm and is a beautiful blue like a swimming pool-crystal clear. There are various areas to sit including picnic tables in the water with food and drink service. Our preference was the Blue Bayou restaurant and bar area. Excellent food.Visited January 2023Written 1 February 2023
- Mike GPennsylvania Dutch Country, Pennsylvania17 contributionsDefinitely worth the tripSpent the day at Blue Bayou. Great spot for hanging out in the sun and water, tables in the water made it nice and comfy to stay cool and the water is so clear and shallow you can roam around quite a distance. A perfect day for fun in the sun and drinks/food also at the ready for you. The drive from San Pedro is not at all bad in my opinion. I've been on much worse roads for longer distances in other places in Central America. You can't expect smooth highways, you need to be a bit adventurous. My wife is less adventure minded than me but also felt the drive was not bad. Worth the trip and plan to stop along the way at either The Truck Stop or The Farm for drinks, food, or smoothies!! We also stopped at Crocs for the sunset on the way back! That makes the day complete!Visited January 2023Written 6 February 2023
- Gabrielle22 contributionsBeautiful Blue WaterSecret Beach is definitely a place to stop by, it’s a bit of a drive if you are staying in town but worth the drive for the beautiful water and views. Upon arrival be warned as the restaurants/beach bars will try and sway you into their lot, I would go and make sure which bar you want to go to because it’s not a beach where you just park and walk around like we thought, you park at the specific bar and you can leave and hop around but keep in mind when you are driving they will try and entice you into their lot. The water is crystal clear and the water was warm the time we went and a lot of the places have benches and swings in the water. I would say this is more for the younger crowd with the beach bar vibe but there was an older crowd too. I don’t recommend bringing your kids here!Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 February 2023
- JasoninOhioWoodsfield, Ohio278 contributionsWas disappointedFirst went to Secret Beach in 2019. Loved it. Could hardly get me away from there. Then....the whole world started going there. Went up that way to check out the new large beach bar/restaurant. The food there was good and, when I was done...I left. That place is just too noisy and jam-packed for my liking. I know that is what some folks are in to, but not me. It was wall to wall people. I guess if you like very packed, touristy places like Murtle Beach or such, you will like this place. To me, the large crowds and development have ruined it. Such is the case with every nice place it seems. lol. Still, definitely worth checking out if you are staying on Ambergris.Visited November 2022Written 1 March 2023
- Catherine POttawa, Canada4 contributionsA great beach!Lovely clean beach with warm water! It’s a jaunt to get there, but well worth the trip. There is a beach bar - food is good and drinks are good but service the day we were there was slow. Lots of seating on the beach and in the water.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 March 2023
- papa_deeSan Pedro, Belize25 contributionsThere are still great places to chillSecret Beach is a misnomer. At the north end you have a bunch of bars and restaurants that cater to the Spring Break Party Hardy crowd. At the south end, you still have bars and restaurants but less of them and a much mellower vibe. We prefer the latter and suggest Sunset Beach Club is the best place to go. The beach is great in and out of the water and there are a fair number of loungers, picnic tables, tables and chairs for you to use. And the food at Sunset Beach Club is really excellent, supported by better than average service. My rating reflects the whole Secret Beach area. Sunset Beach Club rates much, much higher in my books. One final note. Despite you may have been told that the road has been fixed, the road to Secret Beach is still bumpy and extremely potholed. You need a cart with good ground clearance and shocks.Visited February 2023Written 19 March 2023

It does take a while to get here in golf cart, but totally worth it. When we pulled in, there are lots of people trying to get you to park in "their" place. We went right and went to the end to the area. Chairs were free, but with the intent you are buying drinks/food.
They took great care of us and we had a wonderful, relaxing day. Plenty of chairs in the shade and picnic tables submerged in the water. There are vendors selling items on the beach-they are super expensive compared to other areas and won't negotiate. Save your money and visit another shop in town.

Rough ride in golf carts, mangrove clearing and filling along the way. There is no ‘beach’, but a sandy bottom in the shallow water fronting the bars that have set up along the shore. The water was a bit choppy, and it is probably a little more scenic when the water is calm. Ok if you want to sit in the water and drink, but not much more as far as we could tell.

We drove out to Secret Beach in a golf cart and it took a super long time to get there. It's in the middle of nowhere! when we arrived, there was super loud music playing as there was a DJ pumping out dance music (Pitbull played several times). We walked over to the restaurant/bar and sat in front of the cockatoo cage. That poor bird looked so sad with all of their chest feathers plucked out. There was another bird squawking in the hidden in the room next to the cage and an employee yelled at it to "shut up" before bringing it out to the cage. It then promptly hid in the nesting box. We had a couple alcoholic beverages and they were ok, a little overpriced. They had a child around the age of 12 running drinks out to tables and a puppy tied to a post near our table. The puppy pooped on the dirt floor and no one picked it up but many employees commented on it. Several patrons stepped in the dog poop, some were barefoot. We put our belongings in the free lockers next to the bird cage and walked down to the water to wade while we finished our drinks. We went out to about chest deep and we were doing ok until it felt like we kept getting bit by something. We headed to the shallows to sit at one of the tables and we started getting eaten up. They looked like little clear-ish rolly poly bug looking things with a nasty bite! We quickly left the water to find some lounge chairs but only a couple were available and they were in the full sun so we finished our drinks, grabbed our stuff from the locker and left. I would not recommend this place.

I'm so sad to not give five stars, I had high hopes. The service was excellent and the food was great. Pricing was similar to the states. The drive was about 40 minutes from our hotel - Alaia. A nice golf cart ride, we enjoyed the scenic view during the ride and all the beautiful real estate.
The issue was the disgusting bathrooms and the SEA LICE!! The bathrooms were unusable. Absolutely disgusting. If the bathroom is like that, it makes you wonder how the kitchen looks... We ended up leaving early because none of us (15 people) could use the bathroom. They were that nasty.
The sea lice are unavoidable and not the restaurants fault. There were so many sea lice, we couldn't get in the water. The moment you get in, the sea lice attach themselves to you. They are similar to maggots. & they bite. If you stay on the sand, you're fine. My friend went for a swim, 6 minutes later he was back and flicking sea lice off of him. Needless to say, he was over it and left shortly after. I will say, the concierge at our hotel did warn us about the sea lice, but we thought we would be fine...yikes!
The vibe is chill and there are a lot of beach chairs. You should check out Secret Beach, it's fun for drinks and chillin', just don't use the bathroom (you may barf) and don't get in the water.

Wonderful place to enjoy a drink while lounging in a fabulous hammock. The best Cevuichie on the island. Enjoy the ride, expect bumps and take in the North Island View.

One of my children did develop a red rash on his thighs that lasted the whole trip but the rest of us were fine. It's difficult to know if this is due to sea lice or not. I am imagining that it wasn't since no one else had that problem.

When sitting in the water, how do people keep their phones and money dry? Are there lockers?

We had seats up front near the water and tucked phone and money under a couple of towels. Just kept a watch on our stuff. There are plenty of people around. Seemed safe. I also have a airlocked phone case that I kept credit card and money in. Put it in my pocket, but you could also hang it around your neck. You can buy them at sporting goods stores or amazon. Like at home be smart with your stuff, but remember you are there to have fun. People at secret beach and on the island were so friendly. We are going back in July. You will love it there!

Good afternoon ! We are a family of 6 (11 to 16 year olds) who will be in San Pedro early March for a week. We'll have 1 or 2 golf carts and looking at spending a day at Secret Beach. Reviews are mixed, should we go on a Sunday or is there a better day to go to avoid the heavy crowd but still experience the vibe ? Thanks a million !

Hello, we will be in Belize over Easter weekend; I have read that some things are closed for the holiday. Will secret beach be open on Easter Sunday?
Skidave11
Colorado Springs, CO23 contributions
I guess the better question would be are the vendors going to be open on the beach for Easter. My best guess would be yes. I went on December 26 which is a recognized holiday in Belize. They observe boxing day do the fact that are part of the British Commonwealth.
Buenas noches, hay playas en donde pueda uno disfrutar de la libertad de no textiles? Saludos cordiales.
Are You able to snorkel at secret beach?

Yes, you can snorkel but there isn’t much to see at least where I was at Blue Bayou. The water is very shallow about 3 feet so you could already see everything.
