Overview
More
The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Didn't get inside except via Visitors Centre but you have to walk all around the building - stunning!

Three things to do here. Contact your Senate or Congressional representative for timed tour tickets and gallery passes. Take the tour, visit the galleries to see the politicians in action, and visit the museum exhibits on the lower floor. The museum has models of Washington,...More

You have to request access to the Capitol building three or more months in advance. This gets approved faster then the White House. Tours are pretty fast every 10 minutes so you can go to your tour earlier then your time if you need to....More

This is an interesting place to visit. It’s a shame that there isn’t more open to the public. The film about the history is informative and the guides very knowledgeable.

We booked this not knowing what to expect. To say it exceeded our expectations is an understatement . All of the staff we encountered were fantastic and so helpful. The guided tour was extremely well done and very professional . I would suggest maybe half...More

We've all seen this building, but it's something else once you actually get here. The dome is beautifully made, and you see the spots were many of America's presidents once sat - long before the made it big!

We signed up for the tour and our tour guide was great. What I liked was we all could wear headphones and hear our tour guide no matter where we were standing. She was very knowledgable about the history of the Capitol.

I’ve never toured the US Capitol, but my opinion of the current government isn’t very high. I’d much rather take in the history of DC than politics.

Fantastic to see in real life after seeing it on tv so many times, not very exiting though. Takes quite a while to walk all the way around it.

We were there last week. You will be made to throw any food and water / drinks away prior to entry. We ate there and it was actually really reasonable. We also bought a hotdog and water at the mall which was under $5 per... More

You are able to bring bags in--there are size limitations though so check the website or with your member of Congress' office. No food or snacks at all, empty water bottles are allowed that you can refill at water fountains.
