I recommend pre-booking to go inside. The day we arrived there were not spots left on the tours. The grounds are just as lovely and very well maintained.

WE got there to late to get inside, and I understand getting inside doesn't always happen. The Capitol Police were very nice, answered our questions. It was late and getting cold, so I hope to see it when I have more time.

The impressive capital building is a must see when in Washington. The impressive building gives a glimpse of US history. The impressive senate and house floors are an interesting visit, however a shame that we weren’t able to see them in session.

You are able to bring bags in--there are size limitations though so check the website or with your member of Congress' office. No food or snacks at all, empty water bottles are allowed that you can refill at water fountains.
