This museum is very good. I'd recommend visiting the Occupation of Latvia museum first just to put it into context. I'd also recommend booking onto the tour of the prison cells because this is what I thought was incredible. You cannot access the cells unless...More

We arrived in the nick of time to join an English speaking tour, with our guide, who had a very Russian sounding accent (probably reflective of the significant Russian minority still in Latvia). Very pleased we got to go on the guided tour - it...More

Friends recommended this to us as there is little advertising about it, perhaps for obvious reasons. A tour with a guide is a must to understand the suffering the Latvians endured during the Cold War. The museum is best seen after the tour to put...More

This is a really must do in Riga. You should book the guided tour because you'll be able to learn many things about this dark period with a young excellent guy! You'll also be able to visit the cells : very impressive and gloomy place...More

Not very well laid out. I'm sure going round with a guide would be better but the day we visited there were none and the lady was particularly grumpy

We had seen this place on Tripadvisor but not on any local tourist information leaflets so struggled to find with the exception of a small sign. Went in and wasn't too sure if we were in the right place lol. Interesting information but not well...More

The building is quite unassuming and easy to walk past without seeing the signage. Persist! The museum - free entry - is a simple exhibition predomonantly of simple displays, pictures and noticeboard style information ... a lot of reading. No. The important thing is to...More

This is a must see for anyone interested in history.Pay the €5 extra for the guided tour of the cells-well worth it-although not for those who get claustrophobic.

This museum is just ok. We visited and was expecting more, so left a little disappointed. Only highlight was it was good to get out of the cold. Unfortunately I Wouldn't recommend.

Very enlightening exhibition with lots of information. For the most part the museum is reading information boards (not very entertaining if you were to take kids). Unfortunately we missed the tour of the cells as we arrived too late. Check in advance tour times if...More

I think ours was 16.30 and it was the last tour of the day so the guide took us out through the prisoner's gate.

You won't get to see the cells in the basement, exercise yard, kitchen, ect. if you don't take the tour. Therefore, it is well worth paying for.
