This statue, which sits in the heart of Cathedral Square in front of the Cathedral itself commemorates the Grand Duke Gediminas, founder of Lithuania. It may not look like much to visitors, but to Lithuanians it is no doubt of great historical significance.

This monument is quite new. It was unveiled in 1996. It is a monument to Gediminas, who was Grand Duke of Lithuania and who founded Vilnius in 1323.

Located in the main cathedral square this monument shows Gediminas the father of Letuva who brought all the tribes together. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

You would not walk 3 kilometres to visit this statue in isolation but as it is in the square where the Cathedral and other key monuments are, it is worthy spending a couple of minutes admiring the statue

Read up a little on Gediminas while looking at the statue. Unusual equestrian monument with the hero on foot.

Like a lot of monuments, is it about the beauty of the monument or what it represents? Purely on aesthetics it is a very good monument and different because he is leading the horse.

You will probably be visiting the Cathedral area so it is worth to take a picture here. Take a note in the horse settle.
