The church is beautiful and I would have loved to see inside. However, it was closed and although there is a small cafe beside it, I was hassled by some bloke who kept trying to touch me so I quickly called for an Uber. It was a shame because I really wanted to see inside but it was very secluded and I didn’t feel safe. I would recommend the church but be aware the cafe takes only cash and i wouldn’t recommend solo visits.

Pretty church which is worth the detour... that's why we drove a few kilometers as a family with 2 children. Once arrived, entry costs 2 euros per person. We only had 6 euros 50 in cash instead of the 8 requested. The two people at reception did not want us to enter, the children were disappointed. Fortunately, a French couple heard that we couldn't enter because we were missing 1.50 euros, and gave them to us. It's really regrettable... especially since they charge and photos are prohibited.

Really a shame we did not visit this church which seemed magnificent to us, the reception being deplorable!! A paying church can be understood whatever!!!! This being a place of worship where we can gather open to all, the person at reception informed us that the visit was paying because it was a museum while on no site is it indicated that it is a museum !!! 2euros is obviously ridiculous but in principle it’s a real shame!!

Absolutely worth seeing. Great, small church with the typical blue and white tiles throughout the nave. The golden altar creates a very special atmosphere.
There is not much to see around it.
Entrance fee 3€. Taking photos is not allowed.

Beautiful, unmissable on a trip to the Algarve. A real shame we couldn't take photos of you because they're prohibited (WHY?!?). An interior completely covered in blue azulejos to complete a historical journey in the life of San Lorenzo. Really nice

A great place to get married! My mom and dad got married here and it looked fantastic. The church is incredible and very unique. Traditional Portuguese church with some amazing designs. Recommend for visiting and for those who are looking for a church to get married :)

I have visited the Igreja de Sao Lourenco a few times and would classify it as absolutely gorgeous. Nowadays you have to pay to go in, which I refuse. To me a church is a place of worship and I want to have the liberty to decide for myself how much I wish to donate.

The interior of the church is impressive. It's absolutely beautiful but the experience wasn't. First you're not allowed to take pictures which is a shame, not only for the memories but also because it's something people should be able to see. The other 'problem' are the custodians who open the church: they talk ... a lot ... and loudly. Finally we like to light candles for our family members but the candles are electronic. I understand fire safety but all these small and annoying issues make the church feel like a carnival attraction and the beauty of this place doesn't deserve this.

A little gem... a pretty baroque exterior and a truly magnificent interior, well worth the €2 entry fee. Unfortunately the magnificence and aura of this holy place was marred by the volunteer attendants, one of who spent the entire time having a conversation speaking loudly on her loudspeaker mobile phone or with her colleague who was busily berating a visiting couple rather officiously for taking a photo.
It’s a shame you may not take photos, and if the logic of that is to preserve the ambience for other visitors then the attendants need to look at themselves first.

L'accès à l'église est bien à 35€ par personne? Je trouve cela un peu excessif, non?

Sorry, I have no idea. Like someone else suggested I would get there early. We arrived in good time for a Sunday Mass in Sept and couldn't get a seat in the main Church. There is a smaller hall to the right of the Church door which has additional seating with the Mass projected on a screen. This too got very full.

Hi Lucia,
My fiance and I want to get married here, the father was not there when we visited earlier this week. Do you have any email or contact number that we could contact them on to arrange and discuss our wedding.
What a fabulous place.....
Thanks in advance V

There is a comprehensive parish directory on the Roman Catholic website for Portugal. Two people who might be able to give you information are Father Jorge Carvalho in Almancil (tel 289395451) and Father Henrique Varela in Loule (tel 289415167). As far as I know you would need to be referred by a Catholic priest where you live because there can be strict rules about eligibility for church weddings
