Twenty minutes from Penong is the Lake. At this time of year it wasn't pink, but very impressive. The road splitting the river is a good catch and the birdlife didn't mind us stopping a bit. Sandhills on each side make an occasional frame. Watch out for the selfie devil, who stops their car in front of yours and leans out on the step to their 4WD, across your road view. But they go soon enough.

Unfortunately there had been too much recent rain, and so the lake was not pink when we stopped past. Quite disappointed but thats the way it goes sometimes. On a day like the one we stopped by it was just a normal salt lake looking kind of lake.

Buggah!! Not pink. Maybe end of summer next year Jan.2023. No good December 2022. 😟
Being aware of current conditions of the lake regarding how pink it is would have been best.
Allow time to visit information centre at Ceduna or Penong to check if the lake is pink which is a rare event according to locals.

There is 15 km of dirt road which was well graded when visited and the salt lake to one side (pink and white) and the standard blue lake to the other made this visit interesting. Well worth the 30 odd km from Penong despite partly cloudy weather.

We didn't see the extreme pink and blue when we travelled but it is still worth seeing while you are travelling around taking in the amazing beaches and coastline of the eyre peninsula

We didn't capture the stunning pinks and blues but I still very much enjoyed visiting this somewhat iconic destination and will go back next time I'm passing to get the classic photo

I didn’t really believe the hype until we took a chance detour after visiting the Penong Windmill Museum. The contrast between the pink and blue sides of the lake is truly spectacular on a sunny day.

While still amazing, the lake is a dull pink on a cloudy day - we noticed the difference on our second visit (on the way to Cactus Beach) when the sky was overcast.

And of course, there needs to be a water level for the lake to be pink - otherwise, it’s just a salt pan.

The lake is a 15min drive from Penong - it’s a good quality dirt road and you don’t need a 4WD to access it.

Highly recommend visiting the lake and then continuing on to Cactus Beach.

One of the bluest and pinkest lakes we have seen whilst travelling around Australia. A welcomed stop on our road trip from Melbourne to Perth.

What an amazing place and really the best for your Instagram photo. The lake was really pink and such a contrast to the sea. Easy to find as you have to go through this area on your way to the famous Cactus Beach. Road is easy and no need for 4wd. Just turn off at Penong and drive. Highly recommend.
