In Sienese territory, just a few kilometres from Poggibonsi, heading towards Monteriggioni, stands a "Knight" on theVia Francigena, la Rocca di Staggia, the stones of which, like a book, tell the tale of five centuries of history.

Love this place, the village and its people from different parts of Italy. The Rocca has been transformed and occasionally hosts a wedding and 'light' shows in the summer and even a music concert... it should do more in these things. ... But, it's got...More

We stumbled across La Rocca di Staggia & were very glad we did. Donnatella greeted us & asked one of the men working on the restoration, Graziano, to give us a tour. Graziano was awesome. He was very informative about the castle & the art...More

I write articles for history magazines, so I was looking forward to a visit to the castle. The tour guide was a lovely lady but I found her explanations of the artwork both laborious and unnecessary. Please don't think I have no love of art...More

The castle is lovely and interesting but as the other reviewers noted it's not just about the castle. Most of the tour is about an "interesting" art installation. Quite frankly, our group came out with our eyes spinning saying "what the heck was that about!!"...More

Really interesting guided tour from a local artist/guide - who infused the impressive history of the castle and surrounds with commentary on the various functions of the castle. The guide was very generous with her time and was thoroughly fascinating.

Visiting the Rocca di Staggia is a bit off of the beaten path, but isn't that what you enjoy about traveling? Walking up gives you vistas of the imposing high stone walls, upon which you'll be exploring once inside. Not much English spoken, but you're...More

This castle is quite the hidden gem. We selected our accommodations in Staggia Senese without knowledge of this castle. It was a delightful surprise to discover not only the castle in the same town we were staying but it was our view from our accommodations...More

A circular walled town with 14 towers which is still intact. Interesting to see the walls and towers; not much in the inside except some shops but does have a couple of good restaurants. Excellent example of a walled defensive site used by Siena against...More
