La chiesa ha un'origine antica ma fu molto restaurata ad inizio 900 in seguito ad un incendio. Ha la facciata neogotica come la gran parte dell'interno , alcune tele interessanti ed un polittico gotico .

Basilica meravigliosa e con una storia molto antica. Sul posto infatti sorgeva un accampamento romano nel primo secolo prima di Cristo che serviva a controllare le tribù celto liguri degli Statielli originari della zona. Nel luogo oggi occupato dalla chiesa si trovava un tempio circolare dedicato alla dea dei boschi Diana che con la cristianizzazione venne convertito a chiesa cristiana. Sul retro si possono ancora vedere alcuni blocchi di pietra (sotto al campanile) che costituivano il tempio. Del peiodo romanico invece la chiesa conserva la bellissima abside ancora visibile sul retro e la cripta sotterranea oggi murata. Il campanile è del '500, la facciata risale alla fine dell'800 quando la chiesa venne parzialmente distrutta da un incendio. Notevolissime le opere d'arte interne, molte le raffigurazioni di San Dalmazio che viene raffigurato con un'ascia in testa. Per me la cosa più particolare sono gli affreschi e le decorazioni liberty terminati nel 1904, cosa unica all'interno di una chiesa. Nel piccolo giardinetto interno, difficilmente visitabile, si trovano anche alcuni reperti romani e un pozzo longobardo.

luogo molto bello, anche se di solito si va per i funerali.....temperatura gradevole, cosa da rimarcare in quanto in certe chiese si congela

La piazza della Basilica di San Dalmazio è una delle più belle del Monferrato; ora si accresce di un piccolo gioiello, proprio di fronte alla basilica è stata recuperata con un attento restauro la chiesa della Confraternita della Trinità, edificio già presente e una visita pastorale del 1576; rimasto per decenni abbandonato, è stato acquistato il 9 marzo 2011 dal Comune di Quargnento, che ha percepito il suo valore storico, architettonico e artistico e le sue potenzialità, vedendo nel suo recupero il completamento della piazza e nella sede di eventi culturali. Tra l'altro ha un ottima acustica come si può certificare dal ciclo della Monferrato Classic Orchestra

Visitata durante la giornata Fai di primavera, colpisce anzitutto l'esterno, bello, colorato con ampia piazza libera davanti che permette di ammirarla. Tradizioni molto antiche per questo sito che gli hanno valso l'assegnazione di basilica minore, che pur rimaneggiata e ricostruita ma sempre dedita al culto nelle diverse epoche. Nella giornata Fai abbiamo avuto anche la possibilità di salire sul campanile godere del panorama a 360 gradi ed anche della spiegazione da parte dei campanari su come si usavano manualmente e sulla composizione delle melodie. una delle prime chiese ad essere dotata di 5 campane anzichè le classiche 3 in uso fino ad allora.

Purtroppo vista solo da fuori, e di sicuro ritornero' per vederla anche dentro, ma dovo dire che la vista esterna è da 8+ bella , bella merita una visita e per saperne di piu
