On the way back to the hotel I passed this unassuming place...the kind of Spain I love...easy Caña...observing the locals...and its way too early for bed

Loved everything about it

Food was excellent, wines great and cheap, staff very friendly and above all - the decor of Tabanco was really interesting. You really have to go and see for yourself. I recommend it to all.

Great place, terrific sherry and tapas - a 'must try it' for your eating list!

If you don't go to any other tabanco in Jerez, go here!!!

We visited this tabanco to see what the atmosphere and sherry was like, and boy were we surprised!

The place is listed in TripAdvisor as an 'attraction', which I suppose it is, but if you don't go here for lunch/tapas, you will really be missing out!

The place itself was a little hard to find, and not in the centre of town like most other tabancos, but it was well worth the trip. It was airy and cool inside, so we propped ourselves up at the bar, and ordered a sherry. The barrels of sherry were fascinating (try the "moronita", a traditional drink of half cream and half oloroso dry).

Next up, food to satisfy our hunger! And what a surprise this place is, all the tapas were wonderful, and so reasonable.

We had the cheese - wonderful. The pringa - also great. Pinchitos, lovely and spicy.

But oh my goodness, it's the carne mechada you just have to try! I've had it many times, and this was by far the best I've eaten. So tender it melts in your mouth, and the flavour is to die for!

If you go to Jerez, you must try this place. You just must. And the service was refreshingly friendly - something we didn't often find in Jerez.

Authentic Spain in heart of Jerez
Jul 2013 • Family
Opened in 1936, closed in 1979 and now re-born in the middle of the crisis, Tabanco La Pandilla is like going back in time. The decor has not changed since Franco times, except for the free wifi. The sherries come from barrels and the proprietor, Antonio, cares for La Pandilla as only someone who hung out there in his youth could. Drinks and tapas are inexpensive. Flamenco can flare up any night on the back stage. And there's a garden in which to chill out or smoke. Take it from someone who has lived in Andalusia for 18 years, it doesn't get any more authentic than this!
