About
Established in 1995, Stax Reclamation Ltd continues to be a family run business founded by Mr Stephen Meyrick. A long standing family tradition, his Great Grandfather Mr Herbert Perry owned a reclamation yard under the name H. Perry post WWII from 1948 to the mid-1960s. Salvage at its heart, the business has evolved over the years with its core principles remaining strong – old and new are the best of friends. Far from seeing items thrown away, the ethos at Stax is that everything can be saved. Providing the local area with salvaged building materials enabling them to restore and revive their period homes and gardens with pieces of the relevant time, or furnish them with the weird and wonderful range of antiques in stock. Nowadays giving them a new lease of life through restoration and alteration, using materials on site to create one off pieces staying true to the “recycle” and moving on to the “up-cycle”. Very useful salvage yard. We often come over here just as we look in at Grosvenor Chambers in Plymouth. stay specialises more in outdoor things but also always have some I door fittings and delights inside.

We are currently renovating an old cottage and have previously extended a large property. Stax has been reliable over the years for specifics and for inspiration . Fans of the retro/industrial look would do well to visit here, there are a huge number of wood and metal chairs here at a very reasonable price easily £40 cheaper than the same would cost on the internet or in interiors shops. It pays to pop in regularly as the stock changes and it can take little while to see the potential of a piece. Over the years I have sourced odd little details and specific items that have given projects am immediate interesting quirk or a fine illusion of history where none truly exists.

We had stopped off on a trip west to stock up for the weekend at Waitrose. Heard someone at the till talking about Stax and called in for about half an hour. I have been gently restoring my thirties flat over 18 months and am always on the lookout. Very pleased to find some half light windows with simple stained glass which were just right. Good realistic prices too. This yard was quite modest, not as extensive as I expected. I also read that it had an online catalogue and sales facility, but I have not been able to find the link. All I can say is if you are in this neck of the woods, then take a look.

Very pleased that Stax exists and we have bought flagstones, wood and some old fittings but I think they need to advertise for more stock. These salvage yards in other parts of the country tend to be like a curiosity shop with a lot of unusual and often tantalising stuff. We have seen occasional interesting pieces in Stax but I think maybe they don't know where to guy in stock. Bit of a tail chasing exercise. If you don't have a big stock people will tend to sell or buy from somewhere that draws the crowd.

Worth looking at the website.

Some very good and curious things in amongst the humdrum and routine. We have bought various things here from pieces of cut granite, roof fittings, stained-glass panels and door handles etc. Obviously stock comes and goes like the tide but the yard and associated buildings are almost always worth wandering round. Friendly staff. When you next do the Waitrose run, take a look down here.
