There isn't much to do here other than stand in awe under Brunel's magnificent bridge, which is exactly what I came here to do! There is a small green, with a life-size statue of Brunel (he was only just 5 feet tall!) and you simply cannot miss The union Pub, due to it's exterior decor. With the very busy Tamar road bridge running right alongside Bruel's railway bridge, any peace the area once had has largely gone.

The bridges you see from this point cross the Tamar and the County line between Cornwall and Devon. The Royal Albert Bridge was built by Brunel in 1859 and still looking good - great architectural feat. Up the steep street from here gets you to a shopping street which has something for everyone. Nice little place

The bridge looks amazing. Waterside is terrible. Nothing for a tourist. We left after taking a couple of photos of the bridge.

Free parking, well worth at least an hour to explore the quayside, small park, to admire the two bridges, local sculptures and to watch the local fishing boats.
Information boards fill in the gaps, this is an historic place to visit.

It can be a climb down and a climb up, but Saltash is a lovely little town with picturesque harbour. House prices are on a par with Scotland!

Visited here a couple of times, it's got lovely views & is right next to the excellent Just Be cafe. The kids had a great time here playing in the park, crabbing & swimming. It has great views of the bridge but be prepared for the walk back up to town & the car parks.

Saltash is one of those places you tend to travel past rather than visit. A pity because on a nice day - even in October - there was a nice walk with some interesting views.

Some serious money has been spent on the water frontage since we last visited, plenty of parking, enough prom and jetty for a short stroll, or somewhere to sit and watch the water. Pubs and cafes smartened up and a music venue. We came down for dinner from the travelodge up on the A38, well worth it.

Saltash Waterside is lovely to go to for a stroll,to sit down and look out at the yachts, boats, canoes, kayaks, small pleasure ferries going up the river and sometimes the police boat will come to check the waters are safe. Children play in the water and teenagers jump off the small pier. There are children/adults learning how to kayak. There is a coffee lounge/bar/food (Just Be) this is a place you can relax and read a book/newspaper, Ashtorre Rock is a place to come for a coffee, tea, biscuit, cake and you can play a game if you wish, upstairs they sometimes have art exhibition or exercise classes. There is a pub called the Union Inn which you can't miss as it has the Union Jack painted across the front. The views from the waterside are beautiful and it looks very picturesque. There are many benches to sit down and a public toilet. There's a small play park for young children. Part way up the hill is Mary Newman's cottage (Sir Francis Drake's wife lived there) this is open during the day but not sure about the times.Parking is good as there are two small car parks which are free. Saltash has a regatta once a year which is an opportunity to watch the gig boats racing against each other, there is a live band, food stalls, a DJ, bouncy castle and the great thing is is that all the community come together to support the event. Saltash Waterside is peaceful and a place to relax.
