We loved our trip to the museum today. We were given a brilliant introduction about the history of the house upon arrival and enjoyed the exhibitions there. Lots there to see for a very reasonable price!

Great visit of very old dwelling
Jun 2021
If you love history and very old architecture, be sure and visit this place when in Bakewell. Not far from the church. Originally a tax collector's house during the time of Henry VIII, it has been occupied and changed since but many original features have been uncovered and preserved. Very well laid out, presented and signed. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

My partner and I visited this lovely little museum and found it very interesting and great value for money. Lovely managers. Covid-19 rules in place. Nice little court yard at the back and public toilet.

Excellent visit - this little place was at the top of a fairly steep hill so maybe consider taking the car up if this might be an issue for you

We were greeted by two very helpful ladies who made sure we adhered to their covid controls, and also were very knowledgeable about the site.

A lovely place to spend an hour away from the hustle and bustle of the main village centre

A gem of a museum
Jun 2021
I’m so pleased I got the chance to visit this wonderful museum. The volunteers were friendly, helpful and welcoming, even when my phone turned out to be less than smart. There are so many fascinating objects displayed in an engaging and accessible way, and there is something for everyone. Toys, costumes, wartime ephemera, arts and crafts, domestic and working items, and much more. The building itself has a long and interesting history which is explained throughout.
Do visit if you get the chance.

The building is fascinating. The collection really reflects the local stories and community. The staff are marvelous and extremely knowledgeable. The one way system through the building made it very easy to avoid crowding in with people and there's loads of hand sanitiser dotted round.
