About
Valence House was voted by the Guardian as one of the 50 best free things to do in London. The only surviving manor house in Dagenham, it dates back to Medieval times and is still partially surrounded by a moat. Find out more about the fascinating history of the house here. Following extensive refurbishment in 2010, exciting galleries tell the story of Barking and Dagenham and its people throughout the ages. As well as exploring the museum, you can discover the tranquil herb garden and Dig for Victory plot, or research local and family history in the Archives and Local Studies Centre. Round off your visit by browsing in the shop or enjoying light refreshments in the Oasis Café. Valence House also offers a year-round programme of events for all the family.

Excellent museum worth the long journey
Jul 2021
I have long been meaning to visit, but was put off by the long journey. Today finally I got around the dreaded North Circular Road for a visit. The museum is free and it is set put on two floors.Very informative panels give you the long history of this area.Though I can't remember anything about the Ford Motor Factory. It took me 45 minutes to go round which pales against my two hour round trip.!

Historic
May 2019
A most tranquil and educational Summer morning spent relaxing in the Manor House and surrounds, could have been in any small English village ( as it once was ) & found it hard to believe was just a few steps away from the bustle of Green Lane, but grateful for it in The Matapan ( as it once was ) for a pint at lunch time. Genuine history, ancient & more recent, but also a reminder of the sense of community, humour, hard work and commitment that built the town. Obviously a resident ( as I once was ) who played footy in the park as a kid/adult & now scarpered off to warmer climes looking back with rose tinted specs, but please don't let that disguise the worthyness of a visit to Valence House, historic, surprising, relaxing, friendly and a reminder to people like me, of the striving of those who came before to give us opportunity.

Come to the park! The park has a great feel about it. Children of all ages were out this Saturday all enjoying the apparatus and the football and basket ball court.

A beautiful venue to visit with lots of history. A hidden gem in the middle of Dagenham. Great place for families and there is a library next door.

A lovely warm welcome
Sep 2019
We went because we wanted to see the Valence Park Holm Oak, one of the Great Trees of London, but there is so much else to see that we hadn't expected! Kim was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There was also delicious "Yorkshire" tea. Thank you. We want to return.

Valence House and Park
Jun 2019 • Family
Spent a few hours exploring caveman capers, meeting a stone age man and early settlers, as well as doing cave painting and exploring pooh. Plenty of full for everyone. Lovely free museum and trail for the children. Relaxing cafe, well kept toilets with baby changing facilities and a large disabled toilet. The play area of the park has been renovated and it now suitable for a large age range of children. I would recommend this park, and the lovely events run by the museum to people of all ages.
