This is an amazing resort and Club med is an amazing place to go with children of all ages. There are possibilities to ski for every age and levels. It is really a treat to be there. Great facility, great resort and great atmosphere. My children absolutely loved it. Club Med is really special and amazing for families.

Not sure I’d return to be honest. Definitely not for beginners - a group of novices we travelled with purchased lift passes but never used them once during their lessons and have been told they cannot get a refund. The beginner slopes were busy and there’s a general ‘aggressive’ vibe in the whole resort. Bars were good but the toilets disgusting which based on the amount you spend on food and drink, is not acceptable. The chair lifts need updating - not one with covers or heated seats.
Having said all of this, we enjoyed the skiing and the views were of course, incredible

1. Tignes is high altitude. That means snow-sure. Fantastic. It can also mean brutal weather: high winds, zero visibility in snow and the boom as avalanches crash down the vertiginous slopes below Tovières onto the lake. Take a good book just in case!
2. This is not a resort for beginners. I am amazed to see reviews where people have not done their research before booking Tignes, then give it a terrible review as it is too difficult. There are negligible greens for beginners, and the blue slopes are more like blue +.
3. Why Blue +? Certain runs can have moguls the size of small mountains. Lac, Corniche and Prariond have stretches that can be well beyond the ability of skiers who cruise the blues.
4. The pistes below Aiguille Percée and Aiguille du Chardonnet catch the morning sun and offer wonderful runs, especially if you catch the lifts at opening hour.
5. Piste Henri offers the fastest ski access into Val Claret (other than catching the ski bus). Although on the shaded side in the morning, first thing it is a wonderful run: long, wide and sweeping. Later in the day, it can become a congested, carnage littered super-highway of destruction!
6. Black Piste Pramecou is a hidden gem! The two seater lift Col Des Ves whips around the corner though, brace yourself and watch the back of your knees! The piste though is 1700 metres long, lots of tight turns, shorts sharp descents that lead into exhilarating little climbs. It’s like the ultimate grown-up’s fun park.
7. Grand Motte is a must. When catching the funicular, you board at 3032 metres, alighting at 3456 metres. So physiologically, it makes sense to climb all the steps when boarding rather than at the top and ending up a breathless, sweaty mess! Don’t rush, enjoy the views when you get out into the open air. Skiers do rush if they are going to catch the Grand Motte gondola to the very top. But from wherever you start the descent, hold back. Let the crowd thin out, then enjoy a quiet ski down. And do it either first thing, or during the 1230 – 1400 period when most people seem to break for lunch.
8. Chairlift Fresse was our preferred method to get into Val D’Isère area and enjoy the beautiful open expanses of the Bellevarde area.
9. If snow permits, skiing down to Tignes 1550 Les Brévières can be wonderfully quiet. Chardons is a bit Red+, Mélèzes a little easier and Myrtilles is now a nice, calming green. Accessible by piste, gondola or ski bus, Les Brévières makes a good lunch spot to get skiers and non-skiers together.
10. I say again, Tignes is not for beginners.

We came here as beginners and it really isn’t equipped for beginners. We’d already done up to grade 6 on wet slopes in the UK but the green slopes here are brutal.
We paid for a private instructor for the first couple of days and he was amazing but he explained that we were very limited as to what is available for beginners as it really isn’t a resort for beginners.
Each day we got the bus from Val claret to le lac as there was a green there (around the back of the row of shops where the spa is) that had a button lift which was ok. You spent more time queuing for the lift than using the slope as everyone uses that slope who is a beginner so it’s extremely congested.
In Val claret there was a 100m gentle run near tufs lift with a magic carpet but the only other green (up Bollin lift) required you to come down a very steep blue at the end and do two steep cliff edge turns as you got off the lift at the top. I’d recommend being able to comfortably parallel turn and stop before attempting the greens.
My husband is intermediate and really enjoyed the resort.
Just need to make sure everyone is comfortably at an intermediate level before booking here or you’ll be bored of the same green short runs, lots of which aren’t served with lifts.
I’ve put an image on of the bollin lift which shows the requirement to finish the green using a blue! Madness for beginners!

Whilst Tignes is lovely be aware of the scam in the car park. Paid in advance and UK number plate isn’t recognised . If you take a ticket to enter the car park then they won’t let you out if you don’t pay again. Extremely rude parking manager. There was a whole queue of people with the same issue. Not a nice end to a nice week

Tignes is an excellent resort for everything except parking. The resort does not want you to drive here. They have built Club Med on the largest carpark in Val Claret so there is now not enough parking and so they can increase the price as much as they like for the few spaces left. So... unless you are able to carry all your gear on public transport you may wish to consider other parking-friendly resorts until Tignes builds new carparking to replace the parking it has wasted and to cater for the new demand as well. If you don't need to drive to your apartment, then Tignes is a lovely resort - a huge area of pistes, efficient lifts, excellent off-piste, good snow conditions and some great restaurants. When / if a lot more carparking is built, and available at a reasonable price, then Tignes may once again become the best ski resort in the world. Until then - car drivers are not welcome here.

The sling is fabulous, extensive , and caters for all experiences , we are seasoned skiers so are looking for interesting and taxing pistes , which there are an abundance of. Val d isere is attached to this resort making an immense area to explore.
Be carful choosing your accommodation I would avoid tignes immobilise the agent for chalets .

Tignes is an excellent ski resort. Huge area on a shared lift pass with Val d'Isere. Variety of piste difficulties. Good snow record. Pistes are well groomed. Lifts open promptly after snowfall. Efficient staff. Only possible criticism is that there isn't enough parking now that Club Med has built on half the old Grand Motte carpark - Tignes needs to provide more visitor parking.

We will be staying In Tignes La Lac in Feburary with my family. What is the availability of WiFi like? Is it any good in the hotels? Is there much available locally? Could you stream movies or is it just good enough to message? Many thanks

We are staying in Tignes Le Lac in February. Do we have to pre book parking spaces? Im hearing it is limited and could be expensive. Thank you.

Hello Martin,
If you do not have parking with your rental, it is strongly recommended to book your parking upstream. The price depends on the length and the area in which you want to park your car.
You can book your parking directly on our website.
Good pre-stay preparations :)

Whats the best way to night ski in Tignes for intermediate family? Do you have to pay for a package or are the lifts just open onto the dark hours?

Become an instructor and do a torchlit descent, but full on all day skiing unlikely to have energy for nightime skiing. In resorts where they do have this it’s a gimmick on an easy nursery slope or floodlit slalom races etc for competition

Is there a good restaurant in the mountains. I know about Folie Douce and the one on the run down to La Daille, but would like a nice lunch stop without heading back down to the town.

The 360 bar is well priced and cheap for food also the ski back in is pretty safe as it’s a green run and very easy. The run takes you back into val Claret.

We were thinking going for Christmas. Is it a gamble with snow conditions??

Due to the Glacier and high altitude, it's one of the few "snow sure" resort's.
Sadly, nothing is guaranteed but that said, I watched a Facebook video this week of 3 skiers skiing the Grande Motte Thursday I think it was. Looked gorgeous.

How does Tignes rate for kids skiing? My 7 yr old has 2 yrs under her belt and loves Les Get but we fancy a change. I have been to Tignes but way before kids!

HI Alex, We were in Tignes Le Lac in Feb'17 with a 6 and 7 yr old. Loads for them to ski. With 2 years under your kids belt there will be masses to do..... Espace Killy has some 300km of skiing and as soon as you get up above the village there was loads of long rolling greens/blues (and reds) for us. No two days were the same. Even with it being Feb half term we were not stuck in queues for long, everything was kept moving. If you fancied a change one afternoon then Val Claret had some tubing/sledging etc. The resort ticked all the boxes for us, something for the beginner in our group, something for the intermediates (and kids) and plenty for the experienced skiers/boarders. So much so, that we've booked again for 2018.
