Another piece of the art and history of the people of Volterra. Beautiful old building at its place in the Piazza near the baptistery. Walk around the Duomo to enjoy all the art and workmanship.

A little town with rich history / it was one of the most important Etrusc settlements in the 4th and 5th century/.In the center you can admire the City hall from year 1208 /Palazzo dei Priori/, the Medici Fortress and the Cathedral with Baptisterium.

The cathedrals in some of the smaller historic cities, are often more interesting than their counterparts in larger cities. This one is no exception. The detail, particularly in the ceiling(s) is amazing. The design on this cathedral with its rather lower ceiling and massive columns...More

Hello, I just found this on the Duomo web site. "WARNING! The Cathedral is closed for restoration from June 1, 2017 until September 23, 2019 !!!" We were there last Oct. and could only walk around the outside.
