What an amazing place. No need to buy a ticket to go inside. You can view it from the top inside the walled city. It’s quite a view.

This large area was excavated in the 1950's and unearthed Roman buildings dating from 1BC. The earliest building was the Theatre, the natural steep slopes against the old city wall lending themselves easily to the construction of semi-circular tiered limestone seating, some of which have...More

Late November there is not a lot of tourists or information on what you are seeing, most of the sites are closed so you are looking over fences.

Definitely worth going to see, we bought the three day ticket which gives you access to several sites in volterra over a three day period, well worth the money.. and don't miss the walk around the walls overlooking the theatre

The excavation site is located at the north side of the city, just to the west of Porta Fiorentina. The old Roman theatre is well-worth the closer visit, although you can have very nice and detail look on it from the road that leads above...More

Site of roman theatre is relatively complete including some standing pillars. There is a book available on the excavations on the site. Good views from above.

No need to pay to enter as this view is part of the grand panoramic view from the road above. As with all Roman ruins a fair amount of imagination required

You need to know to go here but it's quite wonderful. Not the biggest you'll ever see but wonderful. And if you are rushed for time, you can see it from above which all lays it out in front of you.
