Wonderful piece of history and architecture, in addition to a wonderful view to the islands in front of Capo Circeo and to Gaeta and Ischia and Capri to the South. It is a pity that there is not a model reconstruction of the temple like it was at Roman times, just to better understand its layout and original aspect

Especially in clear days it offers wonderful views. From its terraces it is possible to spot Ischia, Gaeta’s gulf, Fondi’s greenhouses, the beautiful beaches of Circeo, the reclamated countrysides.
It can be the destination of a pleasant hike after a delicious lunch in Terracina.

I knew about this place for several months before actually arriving in Terracina and the goal was to climb to the top by the second day after arriving. I was warned by several people that this was a pretty strenuous walk and they all recommended taking a Taxi. I'm 71 years old and am in very good condition. I only had problems because I thought the name of the place was the Temple of Jupiter and it is, sort of. Tempio means Temple and Anxur was the childhood name of Jupiter. Once I got the name correct I was able to use my cell phone navigation to take me there. Don't just say "OK Google, take me to the Tempio di Giove Anxur." Google doesn't necessarly know if you are going by car or by foot, and will assume by car. Say it this way "OK Google, walk me to the Tempio di Giove Anxur."

You will probably be told it is a very long walk and the roads are very steep. Those people probably also have difficulty making it from the dining room table over to the couch and the TV remote. So if you are a couch potato, yes, take a Taxi. But for me this was an easy hike of about 4.4 km. My wife found it a pleasant walk also when I took her there the following day. It took me approximately an hour and 20 minutes from The Grand Hotel L'Apprado, which you can see in the photo at the top of this page. I could have done it faster but I was taking a lot of photographs along the way.

You can get a senior entry discount if you are over 65. I would suggest reading up about this place before going there because these are ancient ruins, and the things you will see will make more sense. I enjoyed this part of our vacation in Terracina very much.

Built in 1st century BC on a massive concrete platform. The temple was dedicated to Jupiter. Sadly very little of the temple remains but it is interesting to see the archways supporting the platform & the remains of the small temple. It is a lovely site to walk around in the spring because of all the wild flowers. There are lovely views across the town & of the sea.

Tempio di Giove Anxur, Terracina is on the top of the highest hill in Terracina. This is an ancient sanctuary and temple devoted to the Jupiter god. It was dedicated to archaic worship and then to a Roman worship. If you are in Terracina you won’t regret visiting this amazing place.

A place to visit for sureat Terracina. I liked the idea of the presentation movie before starting the tour of the ruins.
I think it would not be a bad idea to have a guide during the tour or at least some more information cards. Easily reached by car and free parking.
During the summertime make sure you have the necessary water for you because there is no bar nearby.

What a fantastic place to visit! When we went in October we were the only people inside and had the place to ourselves. This place yields a remarkable panoramic view of beauty! This place is older than the Colleseum in Rome. This is a must see!
