We walked to the piazza and noticed there was a festival happening there and then walking around we noticed the museum so we thought we would have a look here before walking over to check out the 'celebration of France festival'. The museum was in the older style as we had seen many times around Italy where there are cabinets of samples and they are set up in rooms focusing on similar items. I like this style of museum and I enjoyed looking at their samples of everything from paper to body parts.

Musei Civici is a special place where you can find something belonging to the far past which gives you a sense of melancholy: stuffed animals, shells, Roman headstones, memories of ancient times of our territory. Everything is perfect, it's a jump into a fantastic world.
Moreover Musei Civici is free of charge.

Going with children to visit the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia is fascinating. Animals, Roman marbles, strange things, weapons, ethnographic collections, flowers and skeletons ... One hundred stories not to be missed!

On a rainy day, we invested an hour browsing in this thorough ethnographic museum. There are many galleries displaying stuffed animals,, artifacts from various explorers' expeditions; examples of archeological finds, old coins, samples of minerals, etc. Some displays have English translations. The old building itself is quite attractive. All in all, a treasure trove of collections worth putting into the public domain.

We went to a number of their sites, and they were highly educational. All are historical in nature, some covering political history, and one crazy one detailing the history of psychiatry. That one was REALLY interesting and is housed in an old mental hospital!
