What people are saying
DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR HOTEL
1.0 of 5 bubblesJul 2019
Hotel Columbia for 5 nights- deplorable. The 4th floor rooms are very small and dark. The room is like a dungeon. Décor is early cheap bordello with scratched and old ,mismatched furnishings. (And “this is the new section.”) One chair is from a medieval period, the other from Goodwill. Once in the shower, one cannot bend over or turn around. Air conditioning is paltry. There is a crack 3 feet long in the wall above the bed. The view! Ah, the view. Dirty roof of building next door fills most of the scene, complemented by the view on the rooftop beyond of the man with no shirt in his underpants hanging laundry on the line. A million Euro vista. I once had to stay at a Motel 8 during a blizzard and this hotel is the equivalent. This is a HUGE disappointment and we were very dissatisfied. 4 others at dinner have the similar complaints. The photos do not show any of this. We complained to our travel agent and he arranged to move us to a 3rd floor room, supposedly a triple room. It was the difference of night and day-full bath with jacuzzi, spacious room. BUT, still NOT a 4 star rating. We are world travelers and stay only in 4 star or better hotels. We arrived from Villa Olmi Firenza (Florence) and Hotel Griso, Lecco, Lake Como and these are true 4 star hotels, tho Villa Olmi rates 5 Stars. Food and service was good. Other staffing so-so. If you are on a strict budget, then by all means consider this hotel. However, prepare to be let down if you are used to 4 Star hotels.

We were un aware that a party would be going on above us in the 5 th floor .chairs scraping .high heels tapping and awful singing all night long .when I complained inviting the concierge to listen to the Din , he shrugged and said ‘ it’s a party , and it’s only tonight ‘ .i said , I’m only here tonight , and although I feel I’m at the party , I’m not a invitee .he shrugged again and left .

Husband and I scheduled a massage. Had to give license for them to hold until they got their robs back. Paid extra for a rob we didn't want. Robe didn't fit and one of the employees stated I was too big!! I was devastated. Told the manager and she said, "No, it didn't happen." I left very upset. Massage was average. But I would NEVER go there again. It is a classless establishment.

Refreshed exhilarating wonderful words cannot describe the SPA experience. The steam room is awesome. The sauna is wonderful but the piece de resistance is the whirlpool. Many jets. Waterfalls that massage your neck and shoulders, in addition to the normal jets but the one I loved most was the bed. Tiny jets were felt up and down my back and upper legs. Amazing!!! There is also a dark whirlpool to zen out. You can continue the zen experience in the quiet area where you lounge and drink tea and munch on wafers. I cannot wait to go back again and again. Best spa in Montecatini.!!!! Totally recommend

European rooms tend to be a bit smaller, but our room was fairly large with a nice sized ensuite. My favorite part was waiting for the sunset, where each night I made sure that I was there to see it over the rooftops and the hills. I didn't take advantage with the spa services but they looked enticing... The concierge and clerks at the desks were more than pleasant. Meals which included a dinner and buffet breakfasts were absolutely beyond words. The Italian Cuisine was paired nicely with the wines and the food was abundant. What I loved about Columbia: "Everything!" If you're looking for a central accommodation in Central Italy, look no farther! We were there for 6 wonderful nights...

We stayed at this hotel for one week during our guided tour of Tuscany. The staff did a great job in helping us feel right at home. In particular, one of the waitresses in the rooftop restaurant was great at supplying me with tasty gluten-free products both for breakfast and for the 4 - 5 course dinners. Our room (number 407) was comfortable, but there were a few problems. One involved the fact that the hotel's wifi system didn't really work in the room, but only could maintain a connection nearby the door. Another issue involved the fact that the restaurant was above our room, and the early-morning noise that occurred when the staff cleaned up and prepared for breakfast woke us too early every day. On a much more positive note, the wellness facility was well equiped with shower jets, finnish sauna, steam room, heated small pools with waterfalls, and self-service foot massage. All in all, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Hotel Columbia is situated in a nice area with lots of shops and decent nightlife, including bars, restaurants, and a dance club (discotec). I did not use the spa, but the services were expensive. The hotel also offers laundry service. There is a small bar operated by the front desk staff. The lobby/lounge area is large and contemporary and even has a beautiful, white baby grand piano. There is one small elevator to service all of the guests, and it is slow. The hotel staff made a good attempt to communicate in English, and most employees were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has strange decor, to say the least. There is a Gothic influence but an attempt to be sleek and contemporary as well. I'm not sure that it works. The rooms vary significantly in size and layout, so some are much nicer than others. The walls are thin and you will hear your neighbors if they are talking at night. You will also hear water in the pipes inside the walls if anyone turns it on. There is a restaurant on the top floor, with nice views of the town. Overall, I had a pleasant stay at this hotel.
