The view from funicular is amazing. It’s best when you are in front. It takes you to old city center Montecatini Terme.

The Funicular is a good means of transport to reach Montecatini Alto. It costs €7 for a round trip. Trip takes 10 to 15 mins.

Taking the funiculare up to Montecatini Alto was a highlight of our vacation-The scenery up the high mountain was gorgeous and then we were rewarded with a spectacular view of the city of Montecatini Terme below. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset .

Some people are nervous about steep climbs, chair lifts etc but this railway is a nice gentle trip. Standing at the back on the footplate is recommended. Could do with a buffet car ! Loved it.

Definitely a have to do when in Montecatini. They run every half an hour up to midnight. Plenty of restaurants at the top but I would recommend booking at the weekend and don't leave it til the last train to get back as the queue...More

We did not go to Rome, not enough time if you want to see Florence, Pisa and the Tuscany countryside too! If you want to go to Rome, just do that!
