Montecatini Terme may be a Tuscan equivalent of Bath (UK) with many beautiful historic buildings, most of which are closed. The tourist information centre was also closed for the 4 days we were there.
This said, Tettuccio was one of the 8 'Stabilimentos' in town that was accessible and well worth a visit. It's an incredible building with great history and provides a snap shot of the town's past. You can easily spend an hour or two just drinking it in - whether you want to drink the thermal waters or not.

One of the only places you can visit in Montecatini. Wonderful architecture and great place to spend an hour or two.
Lovely cool environment due to the open shaded nature of the building.
There is a very nice bar located within the building.
Entrance free €6 per person payable cash or card
Water is too sulphurous to be pleasant to drink.

We felt we couldn’t stay in Montecatini without visiting the terme. We were pleased we did so. It’s a pleasant 10/15 minute walk from the station, mostly through a well cared for park. It’s worth noting the terme is CLOSED for a significant part of the day. Between 13:00-16:00 the gates are closed and no entry is permitted. It is open (or at least it was for the duration of our stay) between 10:00-13:00 and 16:00-19:00.
If there was one thing lacking at the terme I would say it is information. There was very little (if any) information on the buildings, history, water source or gardens. There is a big row of taps with different names above with water pouring out. We kinda just followed the crowd to work out you could taste the different waters, and ended up googling questions to work out what each of the different taps were for and the meaning behind the gorgeous mosaics surrounding the taps. Locals seemed to be absolutely nailing glass after glass of the water, while hesitant brits (like us) were creasing up at the salty, or sulphury taste (depending on the tap/water source sampled). Some we spoke to while here said the water helped them with some “digestion issues”, but for me I’ve just experienced bad gas!
I’m a gardener by trade and so was interested by the gardens surrounding the terme. There were some interesting specimens, but poor signage and so would likely go unnoticed by most visitors. The gardens were somewhat well cared for, but lacking direction, multiple paths we took to walk the gardens ended in a dead end or overgrown shrub. None of this would bother most visitors, especially as the main attraction has to be the buildings themselves.
The grand buildings were stunning and well maintained. The floors were clean and the ceilings decadent. So despite some of the negatives mentioned above, I’ve had to give 4* due to the beauty of the terme, and the fairly priced €6 entrance fee.

Visited Opera Puccini with friends in september attending opera with repertoir from Puccini booked throug Maria Guilano
The program and the soloists was first class, and the "Sala regina" is Perfect for an opera. The plastic Chairs could be changed to mor classy and convinient Chairs, my back had a taste of plastic after a coupke of hours. But it was no matter because of the high class performance. Higly recommendable

The Terme Tettucio is the largest spa in Montecatini Terme, and has the best and most attractive buildings - really beautiful Art Nouveau. Its fine colonnades and marble must be a delightful place for people to take the waters, as they do every morning! They even have an orchestra playing under the frescoed dome!
We were lucky to be shown all around by Massimo, who was a delightful and informative host with excellent English.
The buildings are set in a beautiful and well-maintained park, an easy short walk from the town centre.

Of all the attractions we visited in Tuscany this was the hardest to work out. Couldn’t find information about when it was open or what there was to see or do when you got there.
We paid the basic entrance fee of 6 euro to walk around the park and buildings. It had an attractive and pleasant setting; the buildings at the centre are stunning, but those on the periphery are tired and neglected.
A free concert was advertised at 4pm - goody we thought! The lady selling tickets said the concert started at 6. But people were taking their seats so we thought we’d give it a go anyway and found ourselves in the middle of a fashion show whilst dressed in hiking gear. Whoops!
There were some disposable plastic glasses near the entrance and I asked if I could have one as there was running water - only to be told (in a very surly manner) NO!!. We later figured out that the higher rate of 15€ was for the privilege of filling the glass with water. No one bothered to explain this or offer me the chance to buy a plastic glass for 9€
Given all the other wonderful things to do and see in Montecatini (Terme and Alto) I would not consider this attraction worthy of addition to an itinerary.

Maybe I’m missing something but I would have given this 0 stars if able. The buildings are pretty but these can be admired from outside the gates and for free.
The treatment rooms look like they were last updated in 1960s by architects of the Former Soviet State. The gardens are only like walking through a local park. Maybe this was something amazing 40 years ago but it hasn’t been touched since.
Oh, and the photos prove that the camera does lie!

A most interesting building which we had totally to ourselves when visiting one afternoon. The Hall Of Water Springs was added in 1927 and comprised of a series of named ‘drinking basins’, each with stunning hand-decorated ceramic tiles reproducing the four ages of life (Adolescence, Childhood, Maturity and Old Age) with others depicting Source, Strength and Beauty. Despite literally having the entire complex to ourselves we were very enthusiastically welcomed into The Music Pavilion to enjoy coffee and biscuits to the recorded sound of Louis Armstrong!

We parked outside and went to reception where we thought we were booking a spa treatment, we paid our money there and were then told it wasn’t open until later in the afternoon. So we went for a very long walk and came back hours later to be told we’d actually only paid to drink the water. A very expensive glass of water. Only one of many taps was working and the water was worse than sea water to drink. Then 5 months later we got a bill for €100 posted to us at home in UK with a threat of more than doubling the fine if we didn’t pay, apparently for crossing a pedestrian zone on the way out of the car park. I won’t be going back!

Impressive art deco styled architecture. The waters taste disgusting but loved visiting the building especially between 4-6 when there is band playing old time music with folks dancing. Well worth the 6 euros to get in and see the architecture.

Is it possible to visit the Terme (not the spa so much) - I am mainly interested in the art & architecture.
Thanks!
