In a city which was hit hard by earthquakes and many of the local apartments abandoned due to their safety it is good to see this is still standing strong. The fountains are working and it is a nice place to visit.

This fountain is one of many mystics of L'Aquila! Up until now nobody knows from where comes the water!!! And it never stops running! Seeing this amazing fountain will make you curious to learn and understand the history of this absolutely amazing city!!!
I think this fountain with 99 outlets has been restored since the 2009 earthquake and all the spouts were operating on the Sunday when we visited. I've read that it dates from the foundation of L'Aquia as a "new town" in the early middle ages.
This is a gem of travertine & marble of the 1200s. This large square piazza has the unique 99 "cannelli" (water pipes) representing the 99 tribes that founded the great city of L'Aquila!
Beautiful! It's also free.
I was disappointed in this fountain. There is rubbish and algae in the water troughs. There are weeds growing over it. Their roots likely to cause damage. I realise that this city has other more important priorities at hand but they do need to clean...More
