I found that the way the ruins were preserved and made available to the public to view, without disrupting people's use of the square was very impressive. It is also a great reminder of the importance of Grado and surrounding areas towards the end of the Roman empire.

As you wander around Grado you will surely stumble on this site. It is well preserved and very interesting, although as in much of Italy, there is not much information or interpretation available. While you cannot walk upon or touch the ruins, the observation areas from the square give good viewing. The bridges over the ruins are also good vantage points. The preservation at this site is quite reminiscent of the preservations at Aquileia.

Am an archaeologist of the period so am biased but this is an important site that is well presented with a good info board with nice plan to understand what you're seeing. Wonderful mosaics and evocative remains.

Stop by and wonder on the old times during your walk to downtown. Even at night there are spotlights, giving a different feeling to think about past times.

It must be that every time building work is done another old treasure is revealed. It really makes you think. even though these are open to the elements they are fascinating.

The archeological sight is in the old part of town, so easy to find whila walking around or to the coast. It is interisting for a short stop, but not much more. Unless you really love history....

Interesting site. The outline of the church building is easy to make out. On the floor are a few areas of mosaic floors, and thanks to the wooden bridges you can get good views of the distinct parts of the basilica. I couldn't find any details in English however, so am not well up on its history or specific importance. But it looks good!

On our walk to see a fort we happened up these ruins. Preserved in situ it showed the design and placement of the former rulers encampment. It had been covered and was exposed and showed the layers of habitation for the city of Grado and the uses of the harbor and a succession of forts and religious buildings that have inhabited the site. Truly eye opening to see the historic complexity that has resulted into the lovely island resort that we enjoyed on our stay.

This was an interesting bit of the historical city to see as you walk around Grado city centre. Do check it out at night when the lights come into play..there's also nearby fountain/water feature which gives it a nice romantic feel at night.
