Disappointing. The outside is suitably awesome, but the inside is largely bare and the information supplied very dry and wordy. We failed to get any feel of what had happened there, despite the presence of a dedicated poison room and some rather spooky dungeons.

Totally worth visiting and very close to the Castello in the center of the city. We walked from the train station and it is a pretty walk and it only took us about 25 minutes, taking our time.

Palazzo Municipale, town hall (1243), big arch is flanked by statues of the Marquis Niccolo Ill on horseback and Duke Borso of Este enthroned. there is a marmor staircase leading to the offices. Inside the Sala dell’Arengo with wonderful frescos.
