Walking around Batroun is easy. It is best done with a guide. There is a lot to see and it is always better when someone explains the significance of what you are seeing. I was not expecting to see the Phoenician Wall or for its size and location. It was a moment where the continuity of time had new significance. This is especially so when taken into consideration alongside the other delights of Batroun.

A must visit, the wall is ancient and looks amazing from the sea if you rent a kayak, or from the inside! If you’re adventurous enough, you could climb the wall and sit and watch a crazy sunset from up there...

There is nothing so special about the old Phoenician wall by batroun sea. There is no need to get adventurous and get closer to the wall as all what is to be seen can be done from a distance.

The wall is probably unique in the region, it is partly preserved and not very popular in terms of tourism, fortunately. It is a living evidence on the genius of the Phoenicians and their architecture in building their city walls. Unfortunately the nearby buildings are so close and even protrude on some parts of the inner wall; the people visiting should try to maintain cleanness as much as possible.

Batroun is always worth a stop, one of the oldest cities in the world,, founded by Ithobaal, king of Tyre. Its name originates from the Phoenician word "bater", to cut in other words, and it probably refers to the Phoenician maritime walls you may still see today, beaut to admire

Our lady of the sea church
A beautiful and unusual church with fabulous architecture and views over the sea and phonecian wall – should have its own listing!

The amazing structure that stands solid and enduring as it separates the sea from the mainland. I stood there in amazement as I watched and listened to the water take its unregulated course. The local authorities should place signs with a history of its existence over the years. A must to see.

We were on our way to Tripoli and decided to stop and see the old wall, and were very glad we did. The wall was impressive, and we also were fascinated by the salt that had dried on the rocks beside it.
It was a pity that there was no information at the wall itself. We had to consult a guidebook/Google to know what we were seeing. We walked through Batroun to see the wall, and there are some nice churches, including a really old one called our Lady of the Sea.

Nice site that gives an idea of all the nations that conquered Lebanon. Very few ruins remain. Not sure it’s worth the detour but all in all happy to have seen it

While we were visiting the old city of Batroun we looked for and found the famous Phoenician Sea Wall. This is still a very impressive structure considering that it has been around for more than three millennia!
The ancient Phoenician Sea Wall was originally a natural structure composed of petrified sand dunes and it was gradually reinforced by the Phoenicians with rocks to protect the city from both title waves and invaders.
Today you can still see the remnants of this ancient sea wall, but only a remaining stretch of about 225 meters along the coast. The width of the current wall is between 1 to 1½ meters.
It is really amazing to note that the wall had withstood some many millions of waves; storms and invaders!

Hi,
I was wondering if there's a fee of some sort to get access to this area to see the Phoenican wall?
Thank you

There is no fee at all to visit the Phoenicean wall.
It is only a small part that is left.
Be carefull if you want to go and have a closer look: the terrain is very difficult o walk on.
