Beautiful architecture, just not what I expected to see with all the pictures I’ve seen on the web and wiki. It still has a large public park and one or two buildings that are actively used for functions and visits, but when you take walk around the grounds you DO see what once was something spectacular but unfortunately has not been kept up with and many of the buildings have fallen on hard times and disrepair, especially when 50% have trees growing within the structure and busting out of the roof of the various buildings. I hate to say, but I wouldn’t spend the time for a detour to see, what we thought would be a magnificent military edifice.

It’s a very calm and historic place, but with most of the buildings or site abandoned, except for the tour office and a few military outposts, this side trip was not worth it. Yes, I do agree with most reviews that ‘it is historical’, you feel like you’re in the past, but given its original grand status and importance it has been almost abandoned and left to sit there empty. Shame no other use has been found for this historical and beautiful place, just to sit and think back what it was like during its heyday

A place full of energy, historical. Calm place today, but the citadel was a "warm up" to the army, so you can almost hear the voices of the soldiers getting ready to some campaign when you close your eyes.

In itself the Cittadella is a magnificent piece of engineering and certainly holds an imposing character. It is possible to walk in to the grounds from the new bridge and wander around, but there is not really much there with regards to information or interactive activities.

In my opinion, this site will be significantly helped by the new road and foot bridge across the river - which is good to walk over and look at the fast flowing river below.

I hope more information can be provided about the site over the coming months and years, as there must be a huge amount of history to explain.

If you have a spare couple of hours to go to see it, I still would, as it is an incredible achievement to build, perfect for a picnic with lots of space for children to play (there is also a fenced swing park in the grounds).

As we were told it was the only day in the year when it was possible to an exhibition of military equipment, cycles, vehicles and a tank! And yes we saw few of old units of those used by American, German and even Italian armies. What about the citadel? Well, not much. Just old military barracks with a huge yard inside and an entrance easy to miss. Do not worry if you miss it.

It is nice to go on a warm day, it is beautiful, historic and an amazing spot to watch the sunrise or sunset. Looks really like a scenario of a movie.

There are guided tours in the afternoon (first tour at 4pm). If there are enough tourists waiting for a tour in the morning, they will run the tour already in the morning a first time, but you never know.

If you don't have a guided tour, you won't see a lot. You will need some explanations to understand what you see. There are ruins you can see from outside, but you wouldn't be allowed to enter the buildings without a guide. If you're lucky (as we were) you find someone who guides you in a private tour, then you can probably see some hidden places. If you're not that lucky to have a private guide, you will definitely need to join a group with a guide.
