About Birdswood
Birdswood is an historic ex-working narrow boat belonging to The Friends of Cromford Canal - a charity who’s objective is the restoration of the canal as a whole. The boat is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, running scheduled trips from March to October: additionally we offer private charters, making the boat an ideal venue for functions for up to 40 people. Come and enjoy a peaceful, relaxing journey along the scenic, rural Cromford Canal, get up close to the fabulous wildlife, and learn about the unique industrial heritage of the Derwent Valley - the part of the canal we cruise on is in a SSSI plus a World Heritage Site!!

A lovely 2 hours on the Cromford Canal. We were on the last trip of the season in October. Stunning scenery very relaxing and very knowledgeable volunteers made for the perfect afternoon. Would certainly go again.

Took time off work, and planned a whole day around the trip that we had paid for...turned up and had to go and ask in the cafe only to be told they weren’t doing the trip AFTER we had paid for parking. ! No phone call or email WE had to turn up and find out ourselves not good enough. Still no contact from them or apology or refund/reschedule.

We booked a private boat tour to celebrate birthdays of our two children on board. We attended with seven other families and their children. We were made felt very welcome onboard. Our boat masters Chris and Mike were very accommodating of our requests and through out the journey kept us updated. Our children were kept entertained by feeding ducks in the canal, with duck food provided on board for small token money. Booking was super easy and Richard in back office was very prompt in replying any queries. I would definitely recommend going on the tour and wish the very best to the team.

We enjoyed our relaxing trip on the Cromford Canal. Very well organised and we even had a welcome by Brian Blessed. The scenery is lovely and well worth the money

Family trip, with our daughter & grandchildren, during our holiday in the area. The staff were helpful & friendly. The boat was clean & covid safe. The older granchildren ( 13 &9) loved the experience, it was just a little bit too long a journey for our 17 month old grandaughter, although she did enjoy feeding the ducks & waving to people walking along the towpath. We were late setting off, due to waiting for people who had booked & were stuck in traffic so this lengthened to the time sat on the boat for 2hrs.
