In the hot July sun, after visiting the Roman ruins below the town, this church was a cool and beautiful haven. The door is Roman white stone and there are frescos inside that date back to the beginning of the 16th century - lovely little side chapels provided a welcome relief from the weather outside. But even if it was perfect, comfortable weather, you would want to go inside and spend time marvelling at the way builders in days gone by accomplished such feats of architecture. It is right on the town square - the town itself is small and easily visited in less than an hour, but be sure to stay and have lunch or a cold drink at the cafes that are 100 feet from the church.
