About
Weymouth Sand Sculpture Festival aka Sandworld is a seasonal attraction set within Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth - next door to the SeaLife Centre, and next to a large car and coach park. Sandworld is an all weather attraction created by local artists to showcase the talents of International and UK Sand Sculptors undercover in a huge marquee. There is a large covered sand pit. Visitors are encouraged to "have a go" at sandsculpting having been inspired by what they have seen. It is sometimes possible to engage with artists as they work on new pieces which are added to the site from time to time, and always possible to relax with a drink, snack or icecream at the on site cafe. Activities such as filling sand bottles are available at extra cost, and a gift shop completes the experience where you can buy a postcard of your favourite sculpture or a souvenier of your visit. The attraction has a link to Weymouths long tradition of Sand Sculpting, as Mark Anderson - co-founder of Sandworld - is the grandson of Fred Darrington, who began sculpting on Weymouth beach back in the 1920's. Mark is an International Master in his own right, and can often be found in the sandpit at Sandworld helping aspiring sculptors - young and old - to engage in this most therapeutic of activities. Length of visit times varies widely depending on the individual or groups' level of interest and/or engagement with the art, and of course the weather (although most of the exhibits are undercover, a visit in November will not be the same as a visit in August). Some visitors stay 10 minutes, some stay all day, either way is cool. All are welcome at Sandworld - please come and see us! Open between Easter and Halloween

Magnificent sand work
Sep 2021 • Couples
What a beautiful place to visit! The sculptures are magnificent and there’s a massive variety to show including marvel, Disney, ancient Egypt and many more. We can’t believe how cheap entry is seeing as we both got in for under £15. All of the previous work is also displayed in boards inside the area so you can recognise the different artists and their work. There’s also a quiz you can do as you walk round so it makes it more fun even as adults! We also took the opportunity to make a little keepsake and fill a sand jar whilst we were there. Staff were 10/10 and it was a lovely morning out!

Amazing artwork
Sep 2021 • Couples
Really glad we checked out sandworld as the exhibits themselves were simply unbelievable, only issue really was value for money - as a couple we really enjoyed looking at the artwork and seeing what a spectacle these artists were able to create but we literally spent £15 to walk around for less than an hour and then leave.
I imagine for people with kids it would be a lot more value as they had lots of sandpits to teach kids how to build certain sculptures.

Amazing sculptures but overpriced
Sep 2021
Fascinating and amazing sculptures. One can't help admiring the skill of the artists. Something very different to see.
As two seniors who went alone, we couldn't really get the value that some with families might achieve so an hour just to see the exhibits was, as others have said, a somewhat overpriced indulgence. Nonetheless, we considered it a worthwhile visit because of its uniqueness.
Our advice is go knowing there are a limited number of exhibits - great as they are - and you are unlikely to spend a long time so factor that in when considering the cost and you won't be disappointed.

Definitely worth a visit.

The sculptures are absolutely phenomenal and we were in awe looking at them. It's a little over priced in my opinion, but we did spend about an hour and a half there as our Daughter was having so much fun making her own sand castles, so it wasn't a major issue. Was interesting reading about the sculptors and some of their back stories.

Waaaay overpriced
Aug 2021 • Family
Waaaaay overpriced! £25 for a family of 4, for about 20 mins entertainment. Yes the artists are very talented and the staff were friendly, but seriously underwhelming trip I'm afraid.

Parking Hell
Aug 2021 • Family
Couldn't park as Weymouth was horrendously busy. Requested a discretionary refund and they kindly obliged.

Probably a nice place to see just travel early to beat the traffic chaos.

Expensive for what it is
Aug 2021 • Family
The sculptures were impressive and, whilst I totally appreciate the work gone into them, this place is massively over priced! We were in and out in just 10 minutes. It cost £8.50 per adult...I think £5 to £6 would be a much fairer price

Impressive but too expensive.
Aug 2021 • Family
The sculptures are impressive but there are not many of them!!! We went because it was raining and we had been at the Sealife Centre, and I had read good reviews. It’s hugely overpriced for what you get, and then you have to pay more to make the sand bottles. I appreciate the work that has gone in and the kids loved spotting the characters but my goodness, £25.50 for four of us to look at sand is steep.
