Spent a lovely sunny afternoon in the reserve. Unfortunately didn’t see any red squirrels or kingfishers but enjoyed the visit nonetheless. At the squirrel hide we did see dragonflies, damoiselles, chaffinches,a robin, great tits, mallards and coots. The people we met including a 90 year old who is a regular visitor were all very friendly. Well signed with plenty of information.

What a fabulous find.
This place is lovely and has the cleanest hides I've been in, and an added bonus of a toilet.
Really enjoyed a couple of hours here watching all the birds on the feeders and the red squirrel running round the trees.
I'm not sure who runs this place but they should be very proud of the little gem of a reserve they manage to allow people to enjoy our wonderful nature.

Absolutely fantastic place, the bird life here is amazing, not to mention the red squirrels. The hides aren't open but that didn't matter as we just sat outside and waited a bit and we saw a red squirrel. Saw lots of birds too around the feeders and the walk areas, Siskins, Redpoll and Woodpeckers to name.a few. Well worth a visit.

Visited 3 times in one week. Excellent paths for walking. Hides to watch the birds and squirrels. Lake . Laminated sheets to identify the different wildlife you might see. Think there is a path goes to Lockerbie. Will definitely visit again when in the area. Well thought out and constructed a credit to the area.

I went on a bike ride with my friend here. Nice and peaceful, stopped for a snack by the water. There are some bike stands that hold the bike by the tire. My tip is to not wear your favourite pair of shoes as some parts on the trails can get very muddy, especially if it's been raining.

Visited while staying nearby on holiday. Loved exploring the nature reserve along different paths and through the forest. A great place to spend a few hours. We didn’t spot any red squirrels but lots of different birds.
Highly recommend a visit.

We just love walking through 'Eskrigg Nature Reserve' and looking at the wild-life, however on this visit we were taken back to see that the pond had been drained and dug-out with a digger of some sort, there was still one or two small pools of water which the ducks seemed to like but I must say it looked like the back end of the moon. Not sure why the pond had to be drained but it must have been for a good reason especially when we are approaching the nesting season. We still enjoyed our walk, just hope we get some rain in the near future to fill it up again.

The reserve is best found from the directors on the Lockerbie Wildlife Trust website. The only problem is the 400 yards of potholes to the car park. The reserve's paths, noticeboards, and hides are all excellent. There is a toilet. Lots of siskins and great spotted woodpeckers, some nutchatches, and loads of mosses and lichens on the ground and trees. You can combine the reserve with walks on the adjacent Annandale Way. It is a perfect place to break a journey on the M74, between junctions 17 and 18.

This is a great little reserve, with a very helpful warden. He had just put out some nuts so the Red Squirrel was very busy. Also a good hide by the pond where you can see most species of woodland birds. There a long walks around the forest as well.

A little out of the way, this Reserve is quite a find but the road down to the small carpark is full of potholes, so drive slowly. After a short walk down the path you enter the lovely wooded reserve, manned by volunteers, it has various “hides” for bird and squirrel watching, there is a toilet shed, and a number of easy walks you can amble along. Along the walks there are signposts giving you photographs and descriptions of various flora and fauna that you can find there. We enjoyed our first 2 hour visit that we went back a second time. And it was just as enjoyable. Dogs must be on a lead here for obvious reasons.

Where is the best place to photograph the squirrel?
Written 24 October 2017
Definitely at or in the hide, Birds of all kinds, nuthatches, tits, woodpeckers etc and of course the squirrels. Pond nearby with swans and waterfowl.

Yes - dogs on lead are fine. I have a rather wobbly elderly dog and he was allowed to lie quietly in the hide and he went to sleep !
