- Alison H61 contributionsGreat experienceTook one lot of visitors here and enjoyed it some much we went back two weeks later with our 2nd lot of visitors - and will definitely go again. The €5 charge for the wine tasting is very good value for money and the gentleman explaining it all does a great job. Nice shop with good value/quality gifts. Small museum also interesting. Ideal in chillier weather to sit by the fire (1st visit) or to sit outside in the sunshine (2nd visit!) with a coffee after the wine tasting. Definitely worth a visit. The village is also very attractive to wander round.Visited February 2023Written 19 March 2023
- Jemma42990Addlestone, United Kingdom12 contributionsWonderful AfternoonAbsolutely fantastic! We stopped off for a light lunch and wine and it was gorgeous! Staff could not be friendlier or more helpful - I could have stayed all day! We had stopped off at some other wineries in the area, and this was by fat the best - both for the wine (it's delicious) and the service! I would thoroughly recommend visiting.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 March 2023
- FranzCyprusKyrenia, Cyprus50 contributionsVisiting the source of my favorite Cypriot winesWe were there yesterday, a view minutes after closing time, but we still had the chance to taste some of their wines. The wines are great and have excellent value for money. Mostly I was impressed by the Maratheftiko, well-aged (10 years) in Magnum bottles in a cave, that is said to be at least 3500 years old. The wines, especially the Xinistery and the Semillon, I know already from the supermarket - after the visit, they will even taste better!Visited April 2023Travelled on businessWritten 6 April 2023
- David FKnaresborough, United Kingdom33 contributionsWine tasting for €5 per head. Good atmosphere.A small vineyard / winery with €5per head tasting ...good value. Staff friendly and good atmosphere. Small shop and museum to visit which is free. We stayed for a small platter of cheese and meats etc which was pleasant. Village is also with a visit. A good way to spend a couple of hours.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 April 2023

- Iain MLiverpool, United Kingdom21 contributionsSmart local wineryThis is a fascinating small local winery. There’s a small museum but the highlight was a tasting session of their superb wines with an interesting talk and good opportunity to ask some questions. Sat around having a few more glasses for an hour or so after.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 15 June 2023
- Emma RPolegate, United Kingdom89 contributionsFamily run wineryWe come to this winery every year. When we come to Cyprus , we only come to this winery. Their knowledge is amazing, and a lovely family run it. The father is so kind and is pleased to see you. You will get a warm welcome from him or one of his sons. They have a light snack menu, their lountza and hallomni sandwich is amazing, and so is the cake. We always take away some wine here to have at home. We couldn't wait to try the new diamond wine, it doesn't disappoint. We can't wait to come back next year to Cyprus and this winery. Highly recommend, lovely people.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 June 2023
- Dave2usaCheltenham, United Kingdom90 contributionsVery friendly family run winery with no pressure to buy.Really lovely friendly family run establishment. We visited without any specific expectations and were delighted with the friendly welcome, no pressure to buy anything, and really lovely wine tasting experience. The place is very well presented and we left with a few bottles of their wine that we enjoyed from the tasting session. I highly recommend this place if you want to experience a low key and friendly winery.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 July 2023
- kfoltynDoncaster, United Kingdom8 contributionsLittle Gem of a PlaceSecond visit this year to this beautiful small winery. Very informative and interesting wine tasting session, with no pressure to buy. However we did buy one bottle of the medium sweet white wine and sat outside under the tree while we shared a food platter. Perfect.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 July 2023

I want to write about the Sterna Winery in Kathikas. Before I start Kathikas and the area is well worth a visit, stay all day in the georgous historic village where wines have been made since mankind knew how to make it. There is another winery too, Vasilikon! Please visit this too and buy lovely wines there. Back to Sterna you will see historic caves where wine was stored but these are likely pre historic but convenient for wine making when it arrived. Step into them and feel the remarkable drop in temperature and dampening air. Enjoy the wine tasting, informative and interesting with a really nice range of wines I bought some in spite of zero pressure to buy. I am glad I did and I returned the some months after. The reason for this post is to draw attention to the Maratheftiko 2013 traditional, red, Cyprus wine. More expensive than the rest, over 13% proof but sold in huge bottle 2 or 3 times the normal size. This ancient wine made to original Kathikas standard and with their favoured regional grape. At one time these grapes may have produced all the wine made at Sterna but now only a small part. The recipe is ancient as are the skills to produce it. Now some may not like it but I found it exquisite! I am no wine buff but here goes, strong, full of fruit, seems to switch from dry to sweet in the mouth, taste that lingers with perhaps black currant undertones. It occurred to me that this local delight would have been the very wine the Cypriot wine workers and villagers would have enjoyed over the eons now gone bye. After an incredibly hard days work, over 12 hours often in the blazing sun, this was the georgous wine they drank that eased away the working day. The taste is pure Kathikas, Cyprus and the drink of the poor, old, middle class and gentry of the area. You may not like it but in any event I ask you to try it. Here in England, sadly, I have just quaffed my last bottle. Thank you too the winery presenter who remembered me from my earlier visit! My Keo tee shirt " Same Tee Shirt different colour" he said with remarkable accuracy. Furthermore he will post bottles to loved ones if need be.

Having tasted some Sterna wines at our hotel, I was interested to find out more. The tasting was such good value and included some bread and olives as well, so almost a light lunch in itself! We enjoyed every wine we tasted and it was really interesting how they use local grape varieties along with more recognisable ones. As well as the wines, they also have a large range of olives, and delicatessen foods for sale. Highly recommended and good value.

We have brought property in Pano Arodes which is 5 min drive from Sterna, what a absolute jem 👌 the owner is so friendly and will go the extra mile to make you feel so welcome, his sons are a credit to him and the winery with their very experienced information about the winery and their wine how it is made wine tasting experience that you have to experience to get the full knowledge, been to others and this place is a jem, 100% you need to visit. Family run and that means a lot. Our local winery and always made feel welcome by all the family, the owner Savvas is a lovely man and it is worth a visit just to meet such a hard working gentleman so are his sons. It a no brainer and the wine is outstanding 👌👌🍷🍷 11 out of 10 for us.

Take a trip to the village of Kathikas first and then make your way to Stern Winery, it is just a short drive from the village.
Beautiful location and the wine tasting is a must at €5 per person where you get a detailed explanation of the wines along with bread and olives to cleanse the pallet. There are also other drinks and snacks for non drinkers and children. The wine tasting was very good as were the wines, something to suite everyone’s tastes from dry through to sweet. There is no hard sell here, just Cypriot charm and I guarantee you will not walk away without buying one of these fantastic wines, we ended up with X 4 different bottles, which will be consumed before the end of the holiday, but luckily, they are available at the airport! The wine museum is quaint and the wine cave cellar where they mature their special wine is really cool. A MUST visit if you are in this side of the Island.

Superb. The wine tasting just 5 euros each for 6 wines and bread and olives with explanations and guidance was amazing value. Such friendly and lovely service. Had an ice cream and soft drink on the back terrace first which had excellent views. Nice little museum area. Interesting cave cellar. All round a Superb experience. Our older teens really enjoyed it

We found this winery by accident as we were driving along the mountain looking for good views over Paphos! It is a gem of a place with amazing wines, a lovely atmosphere and the friendliest welcome in Cyprus. The Rosé wine was excellent and we will be back for the charcuterie board!!
Great hospitality with a little extra bonus of homemade “forest” gin tasting at the end!
100% recommend, especially with only €5 each for a wine tasting of all of their specialties - a bargain for the high quality experience we got.

Lovely family run place.
The museum is comedy bad in truth, but well meaning.
The wine tasting is good value for €5 as you get about 6 1/4 glasses and the family are pleasant and knowledgable.
There are some food options which are nice.
The Rose is really nice which we left with a couple of bottles of.
Just generally classy place.

Can we buy this wine in England? The red wine is fantastic.

As far as I know they don't export the wine as they can sell all the production locally. I usually take a couple (or more) bottles back in my luggage - need to pack carefully though to avoid breakages.

The winery is close to Kathikas on the Stroumpi to Kathikas road, it's well signposted once in the area.
