- NoraatcSudbury, Massachusetts39,121 contributionsOlafur Eliasson’s masterpieceWe were returning to the Harpa Center frequently during our stay in Reykjavík. I was literally going in circles admiring this spectacular modern masterpiece shining in the sun, changing colors and shades adding so much character and beauty to the austere harbor. Olafur Eliasson created a real masterpiece of modern architecture gorgeous both inside and outside. If you are interested in authentic quality products, I highly recommend visiting amazing, albeit very expensive, gift shop, Rammagerdin, in the Harpa Center.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 September 2023
- Jordan KColumbia, South Carolina42 contributionsGlass Building + How to be Icelandic ShowGood: The building is beautiful and well maintained. It is clean and has a public restroom in the basement. The how to be Icelandic show was enjoyable and funny for a wide crowd, but didn't elicit much of a crowd response. Bad: The show could be a bit long if you are not enjoying it. There is also not much in the building for more general tourism. One thing that surprised me is that the How to be Icelandic show was sequestered to a small side auditorium instead of the main stage. For something used to show off the property to tourists, this was a bit disappointing.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 September 2023
- Kurt WBerlin, Germany15 contributionsHarpa is a Great experience.Harpa is a very beautiful and effektiv Building. It’s always special to be there. The piano concerto with Pablo Ziegler and Jose Bragato was wonderful. I hope the recent construction activies across the square do not destroy the living link between Harpa and the Harbour.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 October 2023
- EnglandTraveller2007Yorkshire, United Kingdom228 contributionsImpressive architecture in an uninspiring cityLooks fantastic from the outside with the glass panels depicting fish scales. Mirrored ceiling panals inside look cool. Nothing worth seeing inside really unless you book a concert. A great opportunity to take photos of a building in reykjavik which in itself, architecturaly, is quite bland and some what drab . Lots of buildings of different shades of gray which does actually look like one large out of town shopping/Industrial unit complexVisited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 November 2023
- tinylassSheffield, United Kingdom5,816 contributionsI bet the acoustics are awesomeLarge glass building on the harbour. It is very smart looking and fancy shapes of glass and coloured blocks make it very unique. We didn't venture inside nor see a concert but I imagine it would be worth it for the acoustics. Worth seeing it, especially at night.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023
- mtanguloWashington DC, District of Columbia944 contributionsMajestic SpaceThis building is by the Bay Area and it’s the music conservatory. It’s architectural beauty is in the windows which are like a bee hive. The light reflects beautifully inside and out, they are also are illuminated at night. They have all type of daily musical programs. You can also just go and visit the spaces. There’s is a fancy restaurant at the top floor and a bar, cafe and restaurant at the lobby area. We visited a temporal exhibition called Circuleight. Do not miss.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 November 2023
- Ričards EdijsLatvia430 contributionsThe Newest Jewel of ReykjavikLocated in a very scenic place, Harpa continues to be an admirable venue where to go and see some exhibitions during the daytime, see a concert in the evening, or observe the plays of lights reflecting on the facade during the night. Eldborg, the main hall, seems a bit futuristic since it quite gradually differs from other similar venues. Nevertheless, the acoustic is fantastic and being there already makes you feel more enlightened.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 December 2023
- Linda_LalestonBridgend, United Kingdom407 contributionsFab-u-lous!Popped in to see what the Harpa was all about only to be invited to attend a free concert by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra playing Christmas music 🎶. It was incredible. The shop and Cafe are pretty amazing too. A must visit place if you’re in the city.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2023
- Mavsters1,222 contributionsGlass HoneycombGreat modern architectural building. We spent 20mins walking round. Lucky enough to hear a pianist playing in one of the lobbies. Be warned - toilets on lower floor require cash/card payment before turnstile allows you to enter. I paid, turnstile wouldn’t turn so I paid again. Each payment was £1.18!! You spend more than a penny!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2024
- Chris DTruro, United Kingdom33 contributionsStunning architectureOnly had a walk around the main public areas as the main Hall was closed and upstairs had a private function. But omg the building has the wow factor!! I would definitley recommend a walk around to be stunned by the architecture 😍Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 February 2024

Fabulous building, a stand out from the crowd of mediocrity it is surrounded by. The lines are not flat and horizontal, the shapes are not squares, there are coloured blocks indiscriminately dotted around. Great building.

The unique architectural design of this new concert hall in Reykjavik stands out visually from throughout the city. The inside of the building is just as spectacular since the glass panels that create the exterior honeycomb effect are clear. There are meeting venues and performance venues in the Harpa. There is also a fine restaurant with amazing views from the 3rd floor area. While Reykjavik has a history hundreds of years old the city feels new. The Harpa complex adds to the vibrancy and youthful feeling of this great city. I would love to attend a performance here. Perhaps on another trip.

HARPA is on a par with the best concert halls on the planet. It is also an architectural marvel. When you step in, you are surrounded by so much to see, to do and to experience.

The Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre is a modern building in the sea front of the city that deserves a visit even if you will not attend a concert or a conference. The building's exterior glass structure reminds bee hive. The glass interaction with the light makes the building to "change colours" depending on the angle you see it. Apart from the conference and concert halls there is a café and a shop. There are also organised tours for those that want to buy a ticket and attend.

The Harpa is a beautiful building and we decided to stop by the cafe for a drink. Despite there being 2 members of staff and the cafe being virtually empty, it took ages to get any attention to place our order. When our tea finally arrived, the cups were stained and there was no lid on one of the teapots. This was really shoddy service and not what you would expect from this type of venue. Wish we had gone to one of the other many cafes/bakeries in the area.

Fascinating guided tour of this outstanding venue. The amendments that can be made in each auditorium to alter the acoustics are amazing. Our guide even treated us to a snippet of opera in one of the chambers.

This is the big famous concert hall where grand concerts are held. But there is also a very good gift store and some places to eat. An important reason to go is to see the marvelous modern architecture. This is a must when you see the city.

Excellent cultural venue in a country with little current cultural activities. We enjoyed several shows and events. Walking distance from much of Reykjavik.

Is there any specific requirement for dress code during performance? I ask as a tourist, who would stay in the city with a low-budget bag.

I’d like to get my ticket refunded. I tried to contact the harpa ticket office. But I couldn’t. What should I do? :(
Written 9 January 2023
I am not sure on that. You can check with the Centrum Hotel which is close by to the concert hall. I know they have conferences, and a thing called "How to become Icelandic in 30 minutes" I think that is the name of it. I've not seen it, however the people at the hotel say it's very funny. Elaine

Is there a cafe here? If so what kind of food is available and what kind prices please?
Written 19 January 2019
There is a restaurant and a bar area where you can have coffee / cake etc. It's on the ground floor. Prices are not cheap but nothing is in Iceland.

We will be coming to Iceland next week and my friend will be performing with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra the day after we leave :( However, she will be rehearsing with them at their Thursday rehearsal so we would like to go see her then. She's not sure of the time when she would be singing so I'm just wondering how long the rehearsal usually lasts. The time online says 9:30am - 1pm. Does it usually last that long? I'm only asking because I'm trying to decide whether or not to bring my 5 year old and he definitely won't want to stay the entire time. Thanks!

I'm looking to purchase tickets to "How to Become Icelandic in 60 Minutes" for July 2018. The show is held in Kaldalón hall in the Harpa Concert Hall. When I go to purchase tickets, the only option I am given in terms of seating is "Zone A". Is seating first come, first served? Or are seats assigned?

Hi.
Has anyone used the cloakroom at the Harpa to store their carry ons. A large rucksack ?
We are coming straight from airport via blue lagoon to make the show and don't have time to check in hotel.
Any advice appreciated.
Harpa don't answer direct emails.
Thanks

Saw the cloakroom. No idea how much they would charge but would think they could accommodate a rucksack. Make sure you book for blue lagoon in advance, we didn’t and decided to try the beautiful public baths instead, loads around, with hot outdoor tubs....fraction of BL !,and you’ll be mixing with the locals who are very friendly

Can you tell me how to say think positively in Icelandic?
Written 18 June 2017
Sorry, we did not learn any of the language. In general many in the tourist industry are very friendly, and speak English very well. If you are in a shop or tourist area where there may be some language barrier it is not too great. Their personalities are very much like people in general; very friendly and helpful that you love them or holy heavens what did I just run in to, lol!

What is the cost to tour the Harpa?
Should we purchase tickets prior to the date of the tour or are they readily available on the day of the tour? Travel date is in July.
Thank you.
