Important landmark

This is a stunning tower which does not work as a clock and has been very neglected. The clock face has disintegrated and the wooden doors and windows all need replacing. Luckily the stone work has been looked after and is in good condition. Such a shame as it is iconic and lit beautifully at night.

Worth a Visit

Whhen we went the doors were open and so you could have climbed to the top. The stairs looked quite safe and in good condition but were 2" deep in pigeon poo!

The clock tower stands in front of the town hall it still doesn't give the time with being stopped years ago. The ball shaped building in front of it I have no idea what it is. I can only make a guess that it stores water?

Don't miss it.

You cannot miss this stunning architechtural edifice, right in the middle of town, adjacent to the town hall. Unfortunately the clock was stopped at 7:20 (am or pm?) some years ago after complaints from the locals regarding the imcessant bonging all through the night. Entrance appears to be free; there is no door. Inside there are some steep wooden stairs to the upper levels, I wasn't brave enough to make the ascent. The ground floor is covered by an impressive array of dead pigeons in various states of decay.

Impressive Landmark
May 2017 • Couples
The stone built clock tower stands in front of the Town Hall and is one of the first sights on the Halki skyline when approaching the island. The clock stopped many years ago at 4.20 and the rusting clock faces comfirms that the tower has been neglected for a long time The impressive structure is about 5 minutes walk from the Port of Emporio. It is not possible to enter the tower as it is boarded up and part of the base is surrounded by weeds, additional signs of neglect. The tower has 4 levels, the base being the largest and the others getting smaller and narrower as it stretches skyward. The clock faces are on the 3rd level, with a bell housing above that. It is topped with a shaped structure with what looks like a fish, weather vane, capping it off. Despite the years of neglect the clock tower stands proud as part of the skyline of Halki. It is well worth the small walk up to the tower, a good photo opportunity. Also near by is a traditional round house (no longer in use), not sure how pronounced but sounds like Kifi.  It is also an opportunity to see the big white house with its many steps that is the Town Hall.
